A suffix changes a word’s part of speech , but the meaning remains almost the same. 2. Guess the meanings of the words by the root word. 3. A prefix or a suffix changes the meaning of a word. prefixes: im-, in-, ir-, il-, re-, suffixes: -ion, -less, -ness, -ous, -er root words: luck, peace, like, hope, achieve 设计意图:头脑风暴法,让学生说出尽可能多带有词缀的单词,教师要善于归纳总结。 白板操作:组合拖拉 Step 3 Practice When we read and come across new words ,we can sometimes guess their meanings by the way they are formed. 1. Sometimes a suffix changes a word's part of speech, but the meaning remains almost the same. e.g. helpful colourful happiness illness donation collection agreement kindness 设计意图:帮助学生归类 白板操作:隐藏 点击 2. If you know the meaning of the root word, you can guess the meaning of the word. e.g. able: unable, disabled act: actor, actress, react, active, action, reaction care: careful, careful, carefulness, carelessness, carefully, carelessly invent: invention, inventor, inventive friend: friendly, unfriendly, friendship, friendless 设计意图:培养学生的猜词测意能力 白板操作:直接展示 3. Sometimes a prefix or a suffix changes the meaning of a word. e.g. incorrect dishonest dislike unpleasant harmless dangerous irregularly inactive impossible 设计意图:总结常考词汇 白板操作:学生口头表达后展示 4. Sometimes two words come together to form a compound word. e.g. lifetime raincoat worldwide football sunshine everything airline handwriting postman countryside toothbrush upstairs overcoat pancake grandchild weekday gentleman 设计意图:让学生自主造句,句中必须有合成词,训练思维 白板操作:学生口头表达后展示 5. Some compounds have a hyphen(-) e.g. first-aid Step 4 Exercises Millie has found out more about Anne Frank and her book. She underlined some new words in a paragraph. Help her guess their meanings. Match the words on the left with the meanings on the right. Writes the correct letters in the blanks.(课本P59) 设计意图:通过已学知识,检查学生知识掌握 白板操作:设置笔,学生上白板写答案 Step5 Extension Translate the underlined words into Chinese. Make a list of all your business competitors .Go though your e-mail address book or computerized materials to make sure you are remembering everyone who should hear from you. Print the letter on your company letterhead. Be sure to print some extra copies so you will have enough to add contacts at the last minute or to redo letters that are misaddressed.
