三、教学过程
Step I. Warm-up
1. Greetings
2. Look at the display board (Before class the teacher wrote some words on a piece of paper), ask: “Do you know what they are? What are they made up of?”
To elicit: (Maybe Chinese answer is OK) They’re words, they are made up of syllables.
Say: Yes, you’re right. But do you know what a syllable is? Today let’s know it
Step II. Presentation
1. Teach the new word syllable, read and spell in groups, make sure the Ss know the meaning of it.
2. Make an introduction about syllable
Show a card to the students which there is a syllable on it, say: “It is a syllable”. Show them more like the first one, say: “They are syllables”. Make an example to the Ss, putting some syllables into a word. e.g. ci-ne-ma=cinema
Say: “English words are made up of different parts. These parts are called syllables. a syllable is defined as one of the chapters you can divide a word into. It usually consists of a vowel sound with a consonant sound before or after it. e.g. cinema is made up of three syllables, ci-ne-ma. Words have one or more syllables. Now let’s try to know them and count them.”
Step III. Practice
1. Game
Using the cards above, mess them on the display board, let the students work in groups, put these syllables into words. See which group has the most words.
2. Read
Put these words on the board and say them, let the Ss hear them by emphasizing the syllables slightly. Ask the Ss to say the words chorally. (SB Page 71 A2)
3. Count the number
Erase all the words and write four columns labeled 1, 2, 3 and 4 on the board. Then tell the Ss they will hear some words (SB Page 71 A2) to which they must listen carefully for the number of syllables. They must then write the words in the appropriate column. After that the students read through them.
Step IV Exercises
SB Page 71,72 Exercises A3 through A5
(Before doing Exercises A4 and A5, the teacher should explain the points in them. Tell the Ss that when we make some nouns plural, we add an extra syllable to them. For example, those ending in –s, -ss, -sh, -x, bus-buses, kiss-kisses, brush-brushes, box-boxes. Then ask the Ss to listen to these plural nouns and decide if they have one or two syllables.)
Step V. Speak-up (SB Page 72 B)
Say: Have you ever imagined that something unexpected happens to you one day, what do you want to do first?
(Any acceptable answer is OK)
Group-work:
Say: Now someone has told you that you can keep your home, your clothes and three other things that you own. You must give away everything else. Tell the class which three things you want to keep and why. Use these words to help you.
(show the form of SB Page 72 B on the display board)
Let the Ss work in groups to decide the answer to this question. Try to get the students to produce their own ideas.
After that, each group chooses one enable student to speak out their ideas.
Step VI. Homework
1. Finish off the exercises in the Workbook
2. Let the Ss work in groups to find the longest word which has the most syllables.
