Step 1 Presentation
1. Ask and answer in turns
1) Teacher: (To Student A) How many people are there in your family?
Student A: Three. ( To Student B) What does your father do?
Student B: My father is a clerk. ( To Student C) How old is your mother?
Student C: My mother is 40 years old. ( To Student D) Where does your brother work?
…
2) Student A: I need a pen. ( To B) What do you need?
Student B: I need a pencil.

Step 2: Listen and read
Play the audiotape as the students follow along in their student books. Then ask the students read after.
Step 3: Act
1. Practice the dialogue by themselves.
2. Ask volunteers to act the dialogue.
Step 4 Practice
1. Ask for ten volunteers, five boys and five girls to come to the front of the class.
Teacher: Look! How many people are there? one, two, three…
Students: Ten!
Teacher: Right! (Ask the volunteers.) Do you want the gifts?
Volunteers: Yes!
Teacher: Now, listen. Every one wants a gift. ( Point to the volunteers.) How many gifts do they need?
Students: Ten.
Teacher: Ten dollars for one gift. How much are they?
Students: They are one hundred.
2. Drill
Teacher: How much are they?
Students: How much are they?
Teachers: Ten dollars.
Students: Ten dollars.
Teacher: They cost ten dollars.

3. Look and say
Look at the pictures of the student book. What is he doing now? Why?
Note the phrases “ How much? _____ dollars.” in this lesson. And ask and answer by using the model.
Step 5: Make similar dialogues
Work in small groups. Ask the students to make similar dialogues about other subjects.
