Task 2: Reading for information
Read the following two passages from Mr. An and the Internet.
Discuss in groups and help Wei Jing make a decision.
From Mr. An:
You need to go from Nanjing to Beijing and then from Beijing to Dalian. There are four ways to choose from. As I know, you can’t fly because your mother hates flying. The other three ways are by ship, by coach and by train. If you come by ship, it will take a long time, and I remember your father feel seasick. If you come by coach, it takes 16 hours just to get to Beijing. If you take the train, there are many to choose from, leaving at different times. Trains can be crowded but rather fast. I do think it’s the most convenient for to travel by train. Anyway, why don’t you look on the Internet to help you decide?
From the Internet:
Dalian
Dalian is a beautiful sightseeing destination on the north-east coast of China. You can travel to Dalian by air, sea, road or railway. Click on the links below to find out more.
By air:
There are many flights to Dalian, but you need to make reservations in advance.
By train
A new service has just opened between Beijing and Dalian and this has speeded up travel between the two cities. Check timetable for departure and arrival time.
By road
In recent years, the roads have improved, but last month there were large floods bout 10kilomoters outside the city. The floods washed away soil along the road. Part of the road is still under repair.
By ferry:
During holidays the ferries are usually full of passengers, so there is no guarantee that you can get a ticket. Sometimes the slow ferries are not very punctual and there may be long delays.
