We all know that our educational system consists of kindergarten, primary school, secondary school which includes the middle school and high school. Do you know how many years every stage covers?
Kindergarten education always begins when kids are three or four years old. Then is six years’ elementary school which is followed by junior high school for three years and another three years in senior high school. Before the middle school, we need to learn Chinese, math, English, science, moral education, PE, music and art. In the secondary school, politics, history, geography, chemistry, biology and physics are added to those previous courses.
In china, all citizens must attend schools for at least nine years which is called compulsory education. Usually, we can finish our three years’ study in the senior high school at the age of 18 or 19.However, these years in china, more and more students need to take a forth year or even fifth year in the senior high school. Do you know why? Obviously, it attributes to our exam-oriented education system. Besides the college entrance examination, we need to take lots of tests and get good scores to get into our ideal schools including high school or even middle school. Grades have gradually become the only factor that can affect our decisions on which school we should enter.
Of course, there are many advantages of it. We students are forced to study so hard that we can memorize different kinds of knowledge firmly and gain high points. For example, the arts champion of the 2011shaanxi college entrance examination is fanmengchen范孟辰, whose grade is 687 while the full mark is 750.
However, there are many shortages of this setup. Students are always under great pressure, having so much homework to do, and having little time to sleep. They devote themselves to pursuing high points and ignore the development of their ability to practice, which makes students fail to satisfy the needs of the society. As a result, they can hardly live a good life after they leave school.
Moreover, when we are in the middle school, we always do what our teachers ask us to do and seldom have our own opinions or plans. It tends to cause our confusion after entering college when we need to decide everything for ourselves. A large number of us do not know what we should do and how we are supposed to arrange all the things we need to do.
We are confusing. We do not know what we should do or even what we can do. Time just slip by and we are still what we were before we came here. We have learned little because we do not know how to learn.
