一些名词属格短语：
at one’s wits’ end(智穷力竭) at swords’ points(箭弩拔张0

a bird’s view(鸟瞰) to one’s heart’s content(尽情地)

主谓一致
某些以-ics结尾的学科名称，如physics(物理学)，politics(政治学)，economics(经济学),statistics(统计学)，athletics(体育学)，mathematics(数学)等常做单数用。例如：
Physics is an important subject in middle school.
一些由两个部分组成的物体，通常以-s 结尾，如scissors（剪子），glasses（眼镜），shorts（短裤），trousers（裤子）,scales（天平），pincers（钳子），suspenders（吊带裤），pajamas（睡衣）等，如果单独使用，即不带“一把”，“一副”，“一条”等单位词修饰，通常作复数。如：
His new trousers are black and white.
如果带有单位词则由单位词的单复数形式决定动词的单复数形式：One pair of scissors is not enough.
Two pairs of pliers are in my tool box.
还有一些以-S 结尾的名词，如arms（武器）,clothes（衣服），contents（内容，目录），goods（货物）,fireworks(烟火)，remains（遗体），morals（道德，品行），thanks(谢意)，wages（工资），minutes（记录）等，通常作复数。
High wages often result in high prices.
His thanks were most profuse.(丰富的)
凡是以-ings 结尾名词，通常做复数用。如：earnings（收入），surroundings（环境），sweepings（扫拢的垃圾）等。
有些集体名词，是代表有生命的东西，通常作复数，其后的谓语动词用复数。如：police，people，cattle(牛),militia(民兵组织)，poultry（家禽），vermin（害虫）。如：
Domestic cattle provide us with milk, beef and hides. （家养的牛为我们提供牛奶，牛肉和牛皮。）
又有一些集体名词，表示无生命的东西，常作不可数名词，其后谓语动词用单数。如：equipment（设备），furniture(家具)，merchandise（商店）等。
还有一些集体名词。如将它所表示的集体视作一个整体，则动词用单数；若侧重于集体的成员上，则用复数。如：audience（观众）,class(班级)，government（政府）,public(公众)，family等。
The group of soldiers is a top-notch fighting unit. 这群士兵是一个一流的战斗单位。
That group of soldiers have the best ratings of individual performance. 那群士兵中每个人都有最好的表现。
当and 连接的名词词组带有each，every，many a(许多的)等限定词，随后的谓语动词用单数。如：
Every boy and each girl in this room is happy.
Many a woman and man in this country finds herself or himself in need.
主语+as much as，rather than，more than，no less than等引导的从属结构，其后动词形式以主语本身的单复数而定。
His brother rather than his parents is to blame.
主语+as well as，in addition to，with，along with，together with，expect等引导的词组，其后动词形式也取决于动词本身。
The manager with some workers was working.
No one expect two girls was late for dinner.
单复数同形的名词
deer（鹿），sheep（羊）,fish, Japanese(日本人)，Chinese(中国人)，Portuguese（葡萄牙人）
如 a sheep---two sheep一只羊---两只羊
还有craft（船舶）及其合成词 aircraft（飞机），hovercraft（气垫船），spacecraft（宇宙飞船）
还有headquarters（总部），means，works(作品；工厂),series(系列)，species(物种)等以-S结尾的名词。
