2. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS 性能要求
2.1. Table 1 shows the acceptable average maximum sound pressure levels in age categories for different noise types (excluding caps).

**NOTE: If a product for children over 36 months of age exceeds 85 dB(A), product CANNOT be shipped to Australia. Notify Product Integrity immediately to notify International Marketing.

2.2. Toy caps when tested per section 3.3.3 must meet the following requirements:

a) The highest average reading in any orientation must be less than or equal to 158 dB(A).

b) If the average reading in any orientation exceeds 138 dB(A), then the warning statements and notifications to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), as required by 16 CFR 1500.86 (a) 6, must be observed.

3. TEST METHODS 測試方法

3.1.1. B & K digital averaging sound level meter, types #2230 or #2236, B & K analog sound level meter type #2209, or an equivalent.

3.2. General Requirements 一般要求
3.2.1. The use of an anechoic chamber (echo-free room) is preferred. However, a non-anechoic environment with a reverberation time of 0.5 s. or less (e.g. a normal lounge room), with no hard surfaces (i.e. walls, ceilings, floors or other large obstructions) within 39 in. (1 m) of the unit under test may be used.
最好使用無回音室,但是回音時間等于或小于0.5s的環境也可,且待試樣本的周圍 39 in. (1 m)內無硬面(如牆壁,天花板,地板或其它更大的阻擋物).

NOTE: For the environment described above, the level of background noise must be at least 10 dB lower than the level of noise emitted from the product.

3.3.1. Calibrate the sound level meter using the appropriate meter calibrator and set meter on FRONTAL mode.

3.3.2.1. Position the meter microphone 9.8 ins. (250 mm) from the noise-producing mechanism and orient the toy to allow the microphone to receive the highest sound level reading.

NOTE: If the normal operating distance of the toy is less than 9.8 ins. (250 mm) from the child’s ear ,test the toy from normal operating distance.

3.3.2.2. Activate the toy in the most severe position:

.1 Continuous - For analog type meters (no averaging function), record the meter reading in dB every 2 seconds for the duration of the phrase or sound effect.

3.3.2.3. Repeat section 3.3.2.2 five times for each phrase or sound effect.

3.3.3.1. Place the firing device and SPL meter no closer than 39 ins. (1 m) from any wall, floor, ceiling or other large obstruction.

3.3.3.2. Locate the firing device and the microphone in the same horizontal plane with 9.8 ins. (250 mm) between them. Mounting the product and/or meter on a tripod is acceptable.

3.3.3.3. Measure the peak sound pressure level at each of the six designated orientations with respect to the measuring microphone. The 0symbol 176 \f "Symbol" \s 11°} orientation corresponds to the muzzle of the pistol/firing device pointing at the microphone. 90symbol 176 \f "Symbol" \s 11°}, 180symbol 176 \f "Symbol" \s 11°}, and 270symbol 176 \f "Symbol" \s 11°} are measured in a clockwise direction when looking down on the pistol with its barrel horizontal. Reference Figure 1.

The 5th and 6th orientations (hammer and trigger) rotate the pistol/firing device about the axis of the barrel, when the device is at 90symbol 176 \f "Symbol" \s 11°} or 270symbol 176 \f "Symbol" \s 11°}, so the hammer and trigger are closest to and in the same horizontal plane with the microphone.

3.3.4. Calculations 計算
Because the SPL scale is logarithmic and not linear, convert readings first to their power level ratios, the ratios averaged and that average converted back to a logarithmic reading. Calculate the average of the sound pressure level readings taken as follows:

3.3.4.1. Convert each dB reading to its power ratio by dividing by 20 and taking the anti-log of the result. For example:

3.3.4.2. Determine the average of all of the power ratios (APR).

3.3.4.3. Convert the average power ratio value (APR) determined above to an average dB reading as follows:
