前言
CEL电影英语教程的名称源于英语“文化”（Culture）、“练习”（Exercises）、“语言”（Language）三词的首字母简略词。因为该教程旨在通过详解文化现象，精练视听理解以及双解词语三个环节，帮助该教程学习者可以通过教程上册美国经典影片《西雅图不眠夜》（或《缘分的天空》）和下册《网络情缘》（或译《电子情书》如无变化，将于近期上传）充分理解电影以及电影中的文化现象。

该教程的特点：
1. 文化（Culture）――详解文化现象
英国人类学家爱德华·泰勒将文化定义为“包括知识、信仰、艺术、法律、道德、风俗以及作为一个社会成员所获得的能力与习惯的复杂整体”。电影是一个很好的文化载体，艺术家们通过电影反映文化的方方面面。英语电影为英语学习者拓宽文化知识面提供了有效的工具。
该教程用中英文双语详尽地解释了电影中的文化现象。例如，教程上册电影《西雅图不眠夜》有十三首优美的插曲。该教程尽数介绍了这些经典歌曲的作者。又如，影片中一位《巴尔的摩太阳报》记者谈到，“This man sells the greatest soup you’ve ever eaten and he is the meanest man in America”。一般电影英语教材或书籍只对这句台词做了翻译，并未解释其中的文化现象。其实，这位记者指的是纽约市著名的纳粹汤厨。这样的文化现象详解该教程共提供了102条。有些文化现象的解释引自互联网，版权归原作者所有。
2. 练习（Exercises）－－精练视听理解
没有对电影细节的理解和把握，很难对电影有准确而深刻的理解。该教程为帮助学习者理解和把握电影细节，设计了531个问题，其中包括496个问答题和35个段落填空题，以弥补一般电影英语教材或书籍的不足。学习者可以从书后电影剧本中找到答案。笔者已根据网上提供的剧本和电影音频进行了反复校对，并且弥补了网络剧本的不足，加入了全部歌曲的歌词，尽量给各位英语学习爱好者提供零距离无障碍的语言环境，省去查字典和搜索网络的时间。
3．语言（Language）――双解词语
文化的基础是象征符号。其中最重要的是语言和文字，人类通过语言才能把文化一代代的传续下去。电影中的语言也担负着传承文化的使命。该教程不但对疑难词汇和疑难表达法进行了中英文双解，而且对有些看似简单的词语和表达法做了解释，如在下列对话中

“Get”一词在《美国传统词典》中作及物动词时有37条释义；该词作不及物动词时有8条释义。对有些学习者来说，判断“get”一词在此处的词义并非易事。双解词语可以帮助学习者迅速、准确地把握词语含义，提高学习效率。该教程共包含这样的双解词语427条。
该教程的目标群体：
