Show the picture that China took part in the Olympics first. T: When did China take part in the Olympics for the first time? Ss: In 1952 China took part in the Olympics for the first time. Show the picture that Xu Haifeng lifts the pistol shooting in the race. T: Who won the first gold medal in the Olympics in the history of China? Ss: Xu Haifeng. Show the picture that Li Ning has three gold medals on the chest on the podium in the Olympics. T: How many gold medals did Li Ning win? Ss: He won three gold medals. T: When did we get 32 gold medals? Ss: We got 32 gold medals in the 2004 Athens Olympics. Show the picture of the mascots in the Sydney Olympics that has “2000 Sydney” T: Which Olympics mascots are these? Ss: These are Sydney Olympics mascot. Show the picture of the mascots in the Athens Olympics that has “2004 Athens” T: Which Olympics mascots are these? Ss: These are Athens Olympics mascots. Show the Fuwa picture T: Which Olympics mascots are these? Ss: These are Beijing Olympics mascots. Ask the students to retell Section C 2a according to the phrases on the blackboard. Ss: The People’s Republic of China … in 1952. Xu Haifeng won … in 1984 Los Angeles … China got 28 … and … 32 gold medals, in … Beijing hosted … T: So we know Beijing hosted the 2008 Olympics. What is Beijing city like? Ss: There are more roads. Ss: There are more visitors. T: What flag is it? Ss: It's the Olympics flag. T: How many rings are there? Ss: There are five. T: What colors are the rings? Ss: They are red, yellow, blue, green and black. 2. Lead in the new lesson Step 2 Presentation 1.T: Today, we are going to learn more about the Olympics. T: Now, please retell the passage. You can look at the key words here on the blackboard. Please hands up! Step 3 Consolidation 1. T: Now, please look at 1b. Complete the reading notes by yourselves. Fill in the blanks Time Host city Mascots Encourage the students to say something about the Olympics and lead them to talk about the 2012 London Olympics using the the Future Tense with Will\Be going to do sth. Ask the students to collect some information about the history of the other Olympics and to study hard to remember the spirit and spread it.At the same time ,arouse their minds of valuing the peace of the world. Step 5 Comprehensive Inquiry Activity 1.T: Look at 4. This is a song about the game . Can you sing this song? Ss: No, we can’t. T: Now, please listen to the tape. T: Stop, please! Just now we sang To Be Number One. Now, suppose we go and watch the London Olympics , what will you see and how will you feel? Talk about it in pairs. S1:In the London Olympics , I will see a lot of players and visitors. I will see lots of foreigners. I will see the symbol of the Olympics, the motto of the Olympics and the mascots of the Olympics.
