cause通常指造成某一事实或现象或产生某种结果的直接原因，可与effect连用表因果，常与of 连用。

excuse为免受指责和推卸责任而找的理由、借口，有贬义的意味。

The Blind Boy
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a __36__ which said: “I am blind, please help.” There were only a few __37_ in the hat.
