Back in the fifteenth century, in a tiny village near Nuremberg, lived a family with eighteen children. Eighteen! In order merely to keep food on the table for this mob, the father worked almost eighteen hours a day at his trade and any other paying chore(零工) he could find in the neighborhood. Despite their seemingly hopeless condition, two of the children had a dream that they both wanted to pursue their talent for art, but they knew full well that their father would never be financially able to send either of them to Nuremberg to study at the Academy.
The two boys finally decided to toss a coin. The loser would go down into the nearby mines and, with his earnings, support his brother while he attended the academy. Albrecht Durer won the toss and went off to Nuremberg. Albert went down into the dangerous mines and, for the next four years, financed his brother, whose work at the academy was almost an immediate sensation(引起轰动的人). Albrecht’s oils were far better than those of most of his professors.
Returning to his village, Albrecht said, “Now it is your turn to pursue your dream, and I will take care of you.” Tears streaming down his pale face, Albert said softly “No! It is too late for me. Look what four years in the mines has done to my hands! The bones in every finger have been smashed at least once, and lately I have been suffering from arthritis(关节炎) so badly in my right hand that I cannot even hold a glass.”
To thank Albert for all that he had sacrificed, Albrecht Durer painstakingly drew his brother’s hands with palms together and thin fingers stretched skyward. He called it “Hands,” but the entire world almost immediately opened their hearts to his great masterpiece and renamed it “The Praying Hands.”

Boys do best with “as few girls as possible” in English lessons at primary and secondary school, Steven Proud, a research student at Bristol University, will tell the Royal Economic Society’s conference. But when it comes to maths and science, both boys and girls at primary school achieve up to a tenth of a grade more when there is a high proportion(比例) of girls in the class, Proud found.
Proud tracked boys’ and girls’ test results at the ages of 7, 11, 14 and 16 in 16,000 schools in England between 2002 and 2004 for his PhD. He analysed the test scores to see whether the proportion of girls in a year group made a difference to the results of both genders in maths, science and English. Boys consistently perform up to a tenth of a grade worse when they study English with high numbers of girls as opposed to few or no girls, Proud found. The more girls there are in an English class, the worse boys perform. This is particularly the case in primary schools, he discovered. Girls, who outperform boys in English at every stage at school, are unaffected by the number of boys in their English classes.
He said: “The results imply that boys would benefit at all ages from being taught English with as small a proportion of girls as possible. In maths and science, the results tend to imply that both boys and girls benefit from having more girls in the classroom. Boys may do worse in English when there is a high proportion of girls in their class because they realise that the girls are better than them and feel defeated.”
60. The passage mainly talks about________.
A. the problem of the class sizes
B. girls’ influence on boys in school
C. the genders of the students in the class

B. having more girls in the class has a positive effect on both boys and girls
C. boys can benefit a lot more than girls with more girls in the class
D. boys achieve up to a tenth of a grade worse than girls when there’re few or no girls in the class
63. The reason why boys are worse at English with a high proportion of girls in the class is that________.
A. boys are discouraged by how well girls are doing in English
B. boys show less passion for English study than girls
C. girls are more willing to observe the classroom discipline
D. girls have more gift for language study than boys

The Hospital School Program tries hard to help children develop and maintain academic skills. Joining in the familiar and “normal” activities of school helps children reduce the stress of hospitalization(住院). In addition, by supporting parents in navigating the educational system and getting proper services for their child, hospital teachers help to make the transition from hospital back to school as smooth as possible.
Attending hospital school
The hospital school program is available to children who meet the following criteria:
Children who are studying in schools from kindergarten to 12th grade
Children who are expected to miss three to four weeks of school and whose inpatient(住院病人)hospital stay is more than five days
Children whose chronic (慢性的) illnesses require frequent hospital stay
Educational services
In addition to providing instruction during an inpatient stay,
