Unit 4 Casablanca（卡萨布兰卡）

PartⅠ. Overview
Casablanca
During World War II, Europeans were fleeing（逃难）from the Germans, and they sought refuge（避难）in America. But to get there they would first have to go Casablanca and once they get there, they have to obtain exit visas（出境签证）which are not very easy to come by. Now the hottest spot in all of Casablanca is Rick's Cafe which is operated by Rick Blaine, an American expatriate（移居国外的人）, who for some reason can't return there, and he is also extremely cynical（愤世嫉俗的）.
Now it seems that two German couriers（信使）were killed and the documents（公文）they were carrying were taken. Now one of Rick's regulars（常客）, Ugarte entrusts（委托）to him some letters of transit（通行）, which he intends to sell but before he does he is arrested for killing the couriers. Captain Renault, the Chief of Police, who is neutral（中立的）in his political views, informs（告诉）Rick that Victor Laszlo, the European Resistance leader, is in Casablanca and will do anything to get an exit visa but Renault has been "told" by Major Strasser of the Gestapo, to keep Laszlo in Casablanca. Laszlo goes to Rick's to meet Ugarte, because he was the one Ugarte was going to sell the letters to. But since Ugarte was arrested he has to find another way. Accompanying him is Ilsa Lund, who knew Rick when he was in Paris, and when they meet some of Rick's old wounds reopen. It is obvious that Rick's stone heart（铁石心肠）was because of her leaving him. And when they learn that Rick has the letters, Rick refuses to give them the letter anyway, because "he doesn't stick his neck out（冒险）for anyone".
Ilsa goes to meet Rick alone and after painful communication（交流）on what happened in Paris years ago, they dispel（消除）the long misunderstanding. Ilsa claims（声称）her real love to Rick and wants to stay, but Laszlo must leave and he needs Ilsa. Recovered from the deep wound, Rick resumes his nature of a warrior. He not only gives the letters to Laszlo and Ilsa, but also uses his courage and wisdom to help them break through the Gestapo and police and get on plane. Looking after his true love and Laszlo leaving for freedom, Rick stays to cover them and gets ready to sacrifice.

一天有消息称，两名携带有重要文件德国信使被杀，随身文件被劫。不久，里克的一位常客尤加提来到餐厅，请里克代为保管两份准备在黑市出售的、能替代签证的特别通行证，随即尤加提因谋杀德国信使被警方逮捕并被很快被处死，于是通行证被里克暗中掌握。当地的实权人物警察局长雷诺上尉，是个立场含糊的油滑官僚，他向里克透露，刚逃离纳粹监狱的欧洲地下抵抗运动领袖维克多•拉斯罗来到了卡萨布兰卡，本打算从尤加提处购买通行证后前往美国，同时德国盖世太保斯特拉斯少校也追踪而来，已向雷诺施加了压力，严禁向拉斯罗发放签证。雷诺警告里克不要给予拉斯罗任何帮助。当拉斯罗携妻子伊尔莎来到里克餐馆时，里克发现伊尔莎竟是当年在巴黎不辞而别的女友。正是因为她的离弃，里克才变成今天这样的冷漠和麻木。被揭开伤疤的里克内心难以平静。
拉斯罗探听到里克很可能握有通行证，而且里克当年也曾是一位民主战士，于是他向里克求购。里克拒绝了他的任何高价，声称自己“不为别人出头冒险”。伊尔莎心里明白里克拒绝帮助拉斯罗的原因。她瞒过丈夫私下来见里克，经过痛苦的回忆和沟通，里克得知了当年伊尔莎迫不得已离他而去的真正原因。伊尔莎终于不能自已，向里克表达了埋藏多年的真爱，她希望留在里克身边，但拉斯罗必须前往美国去继续战斗，她不知该怎样解决。走出伤痛的里克恢复了斗士的英雄本色，他不仅把通行证送给拉斯罗，还机智勇敢地保护拉斯罗和伊尔莎突破警察和盖世太保的封锁，登上了飞机。目送着心爱的人奔向自由，里克选择了留下来掩护，准备牺牲自己。

1. Marseilles：马赛, 法国东南部海港城市。
