Students Like Optional Course
This term our school has offered more than 10 optional courses, from which students can choose. The courses are given from 3:30 to 5:00 every Tuesday afternoon.
Students take great interest in the optional courses.Their favorites are computer, spoken English, arts and so on.They say they have learned a lot that is not taught in textbooks and they have got a great deal of practice. However, students are not quite satisfied. They hope more optional courses will be offered while their home-work should be less. They suggest more trips and visits should be organized so that they can learn more about what is going on outside school.

Dear Zhong Hua,
Very pleased to know that you are coming to study in London and it is really a good idea to improve your English before the new term begins next September.
Here is an introduction to the Beech School of English. Compared with the other schools,I think it is the best one that you can go to.First,it is very convenient for you to get there by train.Next, the school is small and the classes are very small, too. There are 24 teaching hours a week.Staying with an English family will provide you with a chance to practise your English and know more about the English family life. After class, you can enjoy sports and activities with other students. The time will suit you and the price is quite reasonable.I’ll get in touch with them if you are interested in this school.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours
John
2.Dear Editor,
I’m writing to tell you about the discussion we’ve had about whether an entrance fee should be charged for parks.
Opinions are divided on the question.60% of the students are against the idea of entrance fees. They believe a public park should be free of charge.People need a place where they can rest and enjoy themselves.Charging entrance fees will no doubt keep some people away. What is more,it will become necessary to build gates and walls, which will do harm to the appearanceof a city.
On the other hand,40% think that fees should be charged because you need money to pay gardeners and other workers, and to buy plants and young trees. They suggest, however, fees should be charged low.
Yours truly,
Li Hua
3.I’m a senior student.I like English very much. Besides attending English lessons at school,I often go to the English Corner in the park near my home on Saturday morning. It was set up(formed)two years ago. Many high school students gather there.Sometimes, some college students and even foreign friends are present at the English Corner.
There,we practise our spoken English, talk about what we are interested in, exchange our experience in learning English and so on.I’ve learned a lot.
I have greatly improved myself in English since I visited it.It is really a good help to me.
