That night, I sorted through my closet, finding shirts, skirts and pants I hadn’t worn for months—or years! I looked at the clothes I’d grown tired of and wondered if anyone would want them. When I arrived at Andrea’s, I found a group of co-workers— and piles of clothes scattered(散落) around the living room. I also found nice homemade food and wine to enjoy. We chatted for a while, and then the exchange began. We drew lots, each taking turns selecting from the piles. Hey! I noticed. There went my blouse…and my jacket! I guessed my “tired” clothes did look special to new eyes。 Then, the floor was open to everyone and a free-for-all followed as we ran around choosing and trying things on. And as our choices were made, we came back to the dining room to eat and talk. I left that night with nearly as many items as I’d brought—including a green silk evening dress I knew my daughter would love to dress up in —and the memory of an evening with a group of really special women. Now our “Exchange club” has become a tradition and we exchange everything from kitchen gadgets(小器具) to houseplants, recipes(菜谱) and unwanted Christmas presents! Best of all, we’ve exchanged the “stuff” of our lives and we’ve exchanged our polite office acquaintance(相识)for real friendship-and for me, that’s been the most precious exchange of all. 56.How did the author feel about her first clothing exchange? A.Proud. B.Confused. C.Funny. D.Satisfied. 57.What do we know about the Exchange Club? A.It has become popular in their community. B.It has enlarged its contents to exchange。 C.It has only offered a place for women to chat. D.It has attracted many new members now. 58.The author thought the most valuable thing she got form the Exchange Club was______. A.their friendship between each other B.the reuse of their old daily things C.the polite office acquaintance D.the spirit of getting through the difficult time 59.This passage is mainly about_____。 A.a special experience B.a special friendship C.a special club D.some special women B I’m fat. I’m too skinny. I’d be happy if I were taller, shorter, had curly hair, straight hair, a smaller nose, bigger muscles, longer legs. Do any of these statements sound familiar? Do you often put yourself down? If so, you’re not alone. As a teen, you’re going through a ton of changes in your body. And as your body changes, so does your image(形象) of yourself. Lots of people have trouble getting used to it and this can affect their confidence. Some people think they need to change how they look or act to feel good about themselves. But actually all you need to do is change the way you see your body and how you think about yourself. The first thing to do is recognize that your body is your own, no matter what shape, size, or color it comes in. If you’re very worried about your weight or size, go to your doctor to check that things are OK. But it’s no one’s business but your own what your body is like—finally, you have to be happy with yourself。 Next, find which aspects(方面) of your appearance you can change and which you can’t change and need to accept— like their height, for example, or their shoe size. If there are things about yourself that you want to change and can do this by making goals for yourself. For example, if you want to get fit, make a pan to exercise every day and eat nutritious foods. When you hear negative comments coming from within yourself, tell yourself to stop. Try building your confidence by listing three things in your day that really gave you pleasure. It can be anything like the way the sun felt on your face, the sound of your favorite band, or the way someone laughed at your jokes. 60.From the first paragraph, we can infer that____。 A.most teens like to have a special body image B.many teens can’t accept their body change easily C.teens prefer to change their body image quickly D.teens usually change their opinions on their body image 61.Which of the following does the author probably agree with? A.Change the way other people look at you. B.Go to your doctor for advice on how to change your body C.Learn from some celebrities on how to change your body. D.Realize you can’t change everything about yourself. 62.The underlined phrase “put yourself down” in the first paragraph probably means____. A.make yourself fall down B.write down your name somewhere C.force yourself to do something D.say negative things about yourself 63.The passage is mainly about____。 A.how to adjust to the changes of your body B.how to build confidence by changing your body C.how to keep an attractive body image D.how to find pleasure in your day C If it looks like a fish and swims like a fish, it usually is a fish. But not the new, lifelike robot fish developed by UK scientists, which have been swimming around the London Aquarium(水族馆) as they wait for their release off northern Spain in 2011. Equipped with tiny chemical sensors(传感器),the fish will collect data on pollution in the port of Gijón and wirelessly send the information back to the control center. “It’s a little lab onboard the fish,” said Rory Doyle, a scientist at BMT Group. The robots were designed, and are being built, by professor Huosheng Hu and his team at the University of Essex, UK. The sensors will search for dangers such as chemical waste and will allow officials to map in real time the sources and effects of pollution, Doyle said。 He and his colleagues chose a fish design because hundreds of millions of years of evolution(进化) has created an energy-efficient creature, he said. “Nature has done it very, very well.” But copying such a successful design comes at a cost: nearly 29,000 u.s. dollars per robot。 The fish, therefore, will be built “robust” enough to handle any possibilities, Doyle said. They can’t get caught in nets easily, for instance, and the tracking systems inside can help the robot fish avoid crashes with boats and other things in the way. So far, it also seems unlikely the robot fish will be mistaken: At the London Aquarium, sharks swim away from the fake fish, possibly because they find the robots electromagnetic fields(电磁场) unpleasant, Doyle said。 At the same time, scientists are working to ensure that the sounds of the robots and other factors don’t disturb the natural environment, he added. 64.The robot fish was developed in order to_______。 A.be displayed on a robot exhibition in Spain B.be sent to London Aquarium as a gift C.get information of ocean pollution D.collect data on the fishes in deep sea 65.According to Doyle, the robot was designed into fish shape in order to_______. A.cut the cost of the robot B.make the robot beautiful C.reduce the sounds of the robot D.make the robot work better with less energy 66.We can
