法国作为西方国家经济四强之一，政府投入财政预算的20%用于教育。法国政府每年补贴80%的教育经费, 用于改善教学设施及增强师资力量, 因而学费比其它欧美国家低廉得多。学生通常没有学费负担, 留学生同样享受此项优惠。1998年法国放开了留学政策，使各国的留学生都可以享受公立大学免学费、住房补助等的福利政策。

大学生住宿：

交通月票：25欧元／月(均价)，若买单张学生票价为0.8欧一张，可在一个小时内多次使用。
医疗保险：赴法留学生必须参加社会保险,按照法国政府给予的优惠费率，每年约需交纳200欧元的保费。但该保险只负责大病住院和70%的门诊医药费报销。如再参加附加保险, 则可按不同比例报销剩余的30%。附加保险依种类不同，保费为每年107～610欧元不等。
其它费用：看个人而定，包括平时的娱乐费用，旅游费用，但应注意一点：要明确学习目的，少量交往有利于法语学习但交往过于濒繁就会严重影响学习。
总体来说，学生每月生活大致花费在300欧元左右，如果精心计划，不奢侈浪费，250欧元足以。不同的省市相差并不太多，上下起伏每月不超过50欧元。
赴法国学习的总费用

一般来讲，由于第一年的学费较高，各方面支出较高，因此费用也较高，总费用在7000～15000欧元之间。如第二年就读于公立学校，并且找到便宜住房，全年费用可低至4000欧元。
