Unit 8 An outing
Focus: grammar ---present continuous tense
Teaching aims:
①Knowledge aim: Enable students to learn and grasp the grammar—present continuous tense
②Ability aim: Enable students to describe the things they are doing and use the present continuous tense to express the behavior they are having
③Moral aim: To develop students’ ability of working in group and cultivate the interest in learning English.
Teaching important and difficult points: Learn the sentences about present continuous tense.
Teaching methods: Task—based and communicative teaching methods
Teaching procedure:
Step 1 warming up
1. Show students some pictures about that some people are watching TV, doing homework, cooking dinner, playing football in the playground and playing chess.
2. Divide the students into 2 groups.
3. Ask the students of each group to talk some words or phrases about these pictures in English.
4. Encourage and reward the group of students having a excellent performance.
Step 2 lead - in
1. Make some of the students act as the people in these pictures.
2. Ask them to tell the other students what they are doing.
3. Check the students’ answers and introduce the present continuous tense to them.
Step 3 presentation
1. Put forward the questions and answers about the present continuous tense on the blackboard:
--- What are you doing? ( 你正在做什么?)
---- I am﹢动词的ing形 (我正在……)
2. Show students several examples by using the sentence pattern we have put forward above.
3. Ask the students to act as the people in the pictures and try their best to tell the teacher what they are doing by using the sentence pattern we have learned.
Step 4 practice
1. Ask the students to work in pairs and supposing that their partners are doing something and they can ask and answer questions about what they are doing by using the sentence pattern we have learned.
2. Ask each student to tell what they are doing by using the content they have learned.
3. Show the students other pictures and name some of them act as the first person to express what they are doing.
Step 4 Homework
1. Write down what they are doing at eight o’clock by using the present continuous tense.
