教材分析
本课选自人教版高一第三模块Unit5 Canada---"The Truth North"。本节课是这一单元的第一课时即阅读课。本单元的主要内容是了解加拿大的概况。本节课重在让学生通过本节课的学习，能够对加拿大的地理位置，主要城市进行描述；同时对于异国文化，风土人情有初步的认识和了解。本单元有很多城市名称，因此在课前已经帮助学生进行了预习。
学情分析
本班大部分学生对于加拿大有一定的了解，但是对于具体的城市，人口，文化等方面的问题不是很明确。对于英语学习者来说，了解英语国家的文化背景还是很感兴趣。在以往的学习中，学生还是能够应用到积累的词汇，对于方位进行描述。本班女生基础较好，但是不喜欢发言，男生基础相对薄弱些，而且两级分化较为严重。
教学目标

能力目标：梳理出线路图，并用适当的词语完成对加拿大几大著名城市的描述
情感目标：了解加拿大的地理环境和多元文化
