Module 2 No Drugs

Teaching Content: Reading and Vocabulary
Teaching Aims:
(1) To learn some new words and phrases.
(2) To know more about drugs.
(3) To practice reading skills.
(4) To let the students realize the harm of the drugs and get away from the drugs.
Teaching important part: The students read by themselves and find the answers.
Teaching difficult part: The students act the story of a drug addict.
Teaching aids: Multimedia; some paper.

Teaching Steps:
Step 1 Greeting
(1) Greet with the students.
(2) Divide the students into four groups and tell them if their group win, they will get some presents.

Step 2 Lead--in
(1) Show some pictures about some famous stars, then tell the students that they used to be stars, but they were put into prison for taking drugs.
(2) Show some pictures about different kinds of drugs and drug addicts.

Step 3 Before reading
Ask the students to read the words and phrases that we will use in the text and translate them into Chinese.

Step 4 While reading
1. Skimming
(1) Read the two paragraphs on page 12 and choose the topic for the articles.
Article 1 A drug Addict and His Story
Dangerous Activities of Teenagers
Article 2 The Dangers of Using Cocaine
(2) Skim Parts 1-6 on page 13 and decide which of these parts belong to.
Article 1 Part 2,3,5,6
Article2 Part 1,4
2. Careful reading
(1) Read the two articles and finish activity3&5.
(2) Read the articles again and answer the questions
1.How old was Adam when he started using drugs?
2.Which drug did he use first?
3.Who did he buy it from?
4. What was the second drug that the man sold him?
5.How did Adam pay for the drug？
6.What did the police do?
7. Did Adam take the doctor’s advice?
8. Where does Adam work now?

Step 5 Post reading
1. Create a micro movie. Ask the students to act the story of Adam Rouse.
Scene 1
The drug dealer: Hi, Boy! Would you like some cannabis? It will make you relaxed!
Adam Rouse: Really?
The drug dealer: Yes, of course!
Adam Rouse: OK. I will buy some. Here is the money.
Scene 2
The drug dealer: Do you want to buy some crack cocaine?
Adam Rouse: Yes! Here is the money.
Scene 3
Adam Rouse: I am in terrible pain. Can you give me some crack cocaine, please? I have no more money.
The drug dealer: No way！Go away!
Scene 4
Adam Rouse: I will steal something to get some money.
Scene 5
The policeman: Don’t move! You are arrested!
Scene 6
The doctor: If you don’t stop taking crack cocaine, you will die!
Adam Rouse: En……OK, I will stop.
Scene 7
Adam Rouse: My friends, please don’t take drugs! It’s harmful and painful!
2. Ask the students vow together!
Keep away from drugs, cherish our life!

Step 6 Homework
Read the articles again and master the language points.
