Teaching stages:
Step 1. Greeting
Greet the students with simple communication to warm up.
Step 2. Review
Revise the words that they have learnt in the last class. Lead them to read the new words. Then ask the students to spell the words. These words are the main words in the passage of 3a An Accidental Invention. This step may reduce the difficulty of reading.
Step 3.Pre-reading
Lead the students to list some drinks and lead them into the topic of tea. Get them to talk about tea freely. Thus they may think the topic is close to their daily life and they will feel confident and relaxed to express their ideas. It is good for cultivate the students’ emotion. Then lead the students to think over who invented tea-- our reading topic.
Step4. Reading comprehension(while-reading)
1. Skimming
First explain what is skimming. Then ask the students to read the passage An Accidental Invention by skimming. Thus the students can understand the main idea of the whole passage. The students will be leaded with the following exercises:
E1: Why is tea called an accidental invention according to the passage?

2. scamming
Explain what is scamming and how to scam in the passage. The key point of scamming is to find the supporting details. To help the students to get supportive information by using the strategy, there will be two tasks for the students.
First answer the five questions. Ask the students to read the passage quietly and quickly by themselves. Then find the answers. The questions are:
1)Who invented tea?
2)When was tea drunk?
3)What is Lu Yu famous as?
4)What was the most event in the history of spreading tea?
5)In tea culture, why are the Chinese important?
Then, ask the students to work in groups to read the passage again. Fill in the
chart. Get the students to know more about the details of the history of tea. They are
going to remember more about the culture of tea. That is most of the passage.
So even they can retell the history.

Step 5. Target language learning
Lead the students to learn some key points in the passage. Then read it together. Retell the story with the help of the key points and the information in the form in step 4.
Step 6. Production
Lead the students to analyze the structure of the passage. Get the student to know how to write a passage about the history of an invention. Show them an example and lead them to write about it. If there is enough time, ask them to write in groups together and then share their work together. Encourage them to have their own ideas of inventing new things.
Step 7. Summary
Lead them to remind what they have learnt in this class. And do some more exercises to check their study.Lead them to feel proud of our nation.
Step 8. Homework
1. Revise the new words and the new structure.
2. Write a short passage about the invention that they know or they imagine.
