As we can see today, there exists a critical problem which we should never ignore---a growing number of parents do and decide everything for their children in our society. From the mass media and also our own experience, we know much of it around us. Most of Chinese parents help their children do everything from tiny routines to crucial decisions. For instance, from childhood, parents dress their children, feed them and do every washing, even send them to school everyday, sometimes help do the homework. What’s more, they make every critical decision for their child, such as choosing schools or university, what subject their child should major in, even including their hobbies and their special friends.
Undoubtedly, these behaviors have caused a lot of serious problems. On the one hand, children would face badly disappointment when real challenges arise. Children do not know what and how to do because they never make their decisions by themselves. On the other hand, they may not be firm enough to change failure into success when parents would not help them someday. Therefore, parents should help their children to be independent from the childhood.
From my point of view, there are three approaches contributing to helping children be independent. To start with, parents try to set up the consciousness of teaching their children what and how to do from childhood, For example, teach them to do the daily routine or try to tell them how to make decision. Yet, another important ingredient is that parents should tell their child to think for themselves and decide what is right or wrong.
In a word, parents should help children to be independent instead of doing everything for their children.
