Mary D., Freshman, Louisiana State University
In college you have to do a lot more decision making for yourself, and put forth a lot more initiative to get things done. If you attend a large university, your professor won't make any effort to know you, so it's up to you to make a favorable impression. You have to seek them out.
Living with a roommate in a dorm has to be the hardest thing I've encountered (面对). Even your coolest friends will turn out to be inconsiderate if you live with them. My advice — live with someone you don't know. That's what I did, and it made life a lot easier knowing that if we got into an argument, it wouldn't affect our friendship, since we had none coming into this.
Jess M., Sophomore, Western Maryland College
When you first arrive on campus, everyone seems so happy to be there, but it turns out that almost everyone is feeling a little lonely or scared. So do not feel as if you are all alone and sit there, go out and meet the people on your floor. After all they are the ones who will barge in your room without knocking, spend countless hours talking with you and trust you by the end of the year, they will be the ones who know you better than anyone else. I have talked numerous times to all my friends and we have all come to the conclusion that the whole first week would have been a lot better if we knew we were not the only ones feeling homesick and lonely.
Amber D., Senior, Miami University
There are so many interesting and new things to get involved in during your college years. One of the best things about college is making your own decisions, which, of course, includes all of the social activities that go along with college life. But, part of going to college is also learning when to do what you want to do and when to do what you have to do. So, my advice to you is to take advantage of all there is to do responsibly.
Eriea C., Freshman, University of South Carolina
To all those going to college in the fall, I advise you to start off on the right foot. There are times when you may step off the path or get influenced by others, but do not forget what your own morals and values are. Remember to stand up for yourself and believe in yourself also. Always ask for help when you feel lost, you will be surprised who will be willing to help. But, most of all have fun and remember that this only comes once in a life time, so make the best of it, and try to study hard ... After all if you don't, it will be back to the boring home you have been dying to get away from.

Robby was 11 years old when his mother brought him to his first piano lesson. Over the months he tried his best to play well, but it seemed useless. While in class, I tried to encourage him. At the end of each weekly lesson he'd always say, “My mom is going to hear me play someday. ”But it seemed hopeless. He just did not have any inborn ability.
Then one day Robby stopped coming to my lessons. I thought that because of his lack of ability, he had decided to go after something else.
Several weeks later I mailed to the student's home a flyer (小传单) on the upcoming recital (音乐演奏会). To my surprise Robby asked me if he could be in the recital. I didn't know what led me to allow him to play in the recital. Maybe it was his persistence or maybe it was something inside of me saying that it would be all right.
That night Robby came up on stage. He gave a good performance. In tears I ran up to the stage and put my arms around Robby in joy, “I've never heard you play like that, Robby! How could you do it?”
Robby explained, “Well, Miss Haugen, remember I told you my mom was sick? Well, actually she had cancer and passed away this morning. And well, she was born deaf, so tonight was the first time she ever heard me play. I wanted to make it special.”
I thought to myself how rich my life had been for taking Robby as my pupil. But that night he was the teacher and I was the pupil, for it was he that taught me the meaning of perseverance and love, believing in yourself and maybe even giving a chance to someone without knowing why.

7.We can learn from the passage that ________.
A. Robby's mother was unable to see clearly
B. Robby was easy to give up

8.Which of the following can best support the passage?
A. He who laughs last laughs best.
B. Love is a twoway street.
C. Where there is a will, there is a way.
D. Practice makes perfect.
答案与解析 C 主旨大意题。文章刚开头讲到Robby并没有弹钢琴的天赋,后来他凭借坚韧的毅力和对母亲深深的眷恋,精彩地完成了钢琴演奏。由此可知“有志者,事竟成”。
