Signs in Chinese will be set up in public areas, such as airports, to benefit Chinese travelers, the Italian Government announced in late February, 2005. Now many European countries are expected to follow this example.
Despite the different languages, travel across Europe has never been so simple. Just five years ago, if you wanted to visit Germany in the north and Spain in the south in one trip, you had to wait for weeks to apply for different visas from the two countries. You also needed a calculator because both countries had different money.
Today, with a Schengen Visa issued by any member countries, you can travel across 15 European countries without stopping. Since 2002, within most of the EU, there is now just one type of money called the Euro. The Euro was designed to be the only money in the EU, and already makes it easier to shop around. If you drive, your driving license and car insurance policy are valid (有效的) in the other countries. And you can use your mobile phone everywhere.
All the countries in the continent are melting into a united Europe under the EU. For Europeans and visitors the result is that it is more convenient to travel back and forth between the different countries.
56. What does the writer mean by saying “Now many European countries are expected to follow this example”?
A. More signs will be set up in Chinese in European countries.
B. Chinese is now an important language in Europe.
C. More Chinese people will go to travel across Europe.
D. More Europeans have a desire to know more about China.
57. What is the purpose of writing the text?
A. To praise the tourism policy of the EU.
B. To introduce tourism conditions in the EU.
C. To encourage us to travel across Europe.
D. To suggest the world be melted into one like the EU.
58. Why had traveling in Europe become easier compared to five years ago?
A. Because you needn’t drive a car on your own.
B. Because you can use a calculator to exchange money.
C. Because applying for different visas is much simpler.
D. Because one visa is good enough for a number of countries.
59. What can be inferred from the story?
A. The Euro is the only money used in the EU now.
B. Chinese has become an important language in Europe.
C. An increasing number of Chinese tend to travel to Europe.
D. It is always necessary to unite many countries into one.
D
Every year landslides (滑坡) cause 25 to 50 deaths and $1.5 billion in damage in the United States. They account for 15 percent of the deaths from natural disasters in Europe. And in December, a single event killed more than 200 people in the Philippines. Sending workers to stabilize (加固) mountainsides using steel bars and cement (水泥) can help prevent disaster, but it introduces new difficulties. Shaking drills produce harmful dust and loosen heavy, dangerous debris (米屑). "It's quite a risky job," says Giorgio Pezzuto of D'Appolonia, an engineering company in Italy.
D'Appolonia, working with eight other companies, may have an answer: a three-ton robot called Roboclimber. "The idea is to operate a machine far away that can drill without a human being on board,'" says Pezzuto, manager for the project, which is supported by the European Commission. Engineers claim that the machine will be faster and cheaper than manual labor. The robot, a large radio-controlled four-legged mechanical spider (蜘蛛), has cost at least $2 million so far. The final product should be able to climb unstable mountainsides, drill holes, insert bars and cement, and collect data on the slope' s stability. Testing should begin in May.
60. The underlined word "event" (in Paragraph l) refers to ___.
A. landslide B. machine C. earthquake D. flood
61. The purpose in writing this text is ___..
A. to tell people how serious the damage caused by landslides is
B. to tell people that sending workers to stabilize mountainsides is a risky job
C. to introduce a product that can be used to stabilize mountainsides
D. to show people how to use a new product
62. What does the robot look like?
A. A human being. B. A spider. C. A truck. D. A drill.
63. The biggest advantage of this product is that_________.
A. it will be faster and cheaper than manual labor
B. it can climb mountainsides, drill holes, insert bars and cement
C. it can collect data on the slope’s stability
D. it can drill without a human being on board

If there is any single factor that makes success in living, it is the ability to be benefited by defeat. Every success I know has been achieved because the person was able to analyze(分析)defeat and actually learn something from it in this next undertaking(从事的工作). Wrongly taking defeat for failure, you are sure indeed to fail, for it isn’t defeat that makes you fail; it is your own refusal to see the guide and encouragement to success in defeat.
Defeats are nothing to be afraid of. They are common incidents in the life of every man who achieves success. But defeat is a dead loss unless you do face it, analyze it and learn why you failed. Defeat, in other words, can help to get rid of its own cause, Not only does defeat prepare us for success, but nothing can cause within us such a strong wish to succeed. If you let a baby grasp a stick and try to pull it away, he will hold it more and more tightly until his whole weight is hung up. It is this same reaction that should give you new and greater strength every time you are defeated. If you make full use of the power which defeat gives, you can complete with it far more than you are able to.
64. What does the writer know?
A. He knows at least several examples of success.
B. He knows every success in life.
C. He knows every success that has been achieved by man.
D. It is not referred to.
65. The person who is able to analyze defeat is likely .
A. to achieve success B. to be afraid of his defeat
C. to let a baby grasp a stick D. to make a living
66. The writer .
A. advises you to mix defeat with failure
B. asks you to compare defeat with success
C. wants you to wrongly take defeat for failure
D. warns you not to wrongly take defeat for failure
67. What does the writer advise to do with the power which defeat gives?
A. One should explain it. B. One should examine it.
C. One should use it to win success. D. One should know it’s useful.

Attention, please.
It is six o’clock in the afternoon. I’m now giving the weather forecast as usual. From midnight to 2:00tomorrow there will be strong north wind blowing across our town. As a result, the temperature will drop by 5~8℃. Also there will be showers tomorrow morning. Therefore, be sure to close all the windows when you leave your classroom tonight. Besides, put on more clothes in order to protect yourself catching cold when you get up tomorrow morning.
That’s all. Thank you.沁园春·雪 <毛泽东>
