I still remember my kindergarten(幼儿园)teacher, Mrs, White. She looked just like Snow White, because she had the same bright eyes and short dark hair.
We used to 36 a lot . And I would show what I wrote to Mrs. White for correction(批改). She would look at my writing and see many mistakes in it. So one day, when she met Mrs. White at a parent-teacher meeting. Mum asked her why she never corrected my 39 and why she never said no to her child.
Mrs. White said, “The children are just beginning to get 40 about using words. Spelling and grammar can wait. We can’t 41 that interest with a red pen.”As it was a long time ago, my mother could only remember the main idea of what Mrs. White said about my writing. 42 , I grew up learning to use words with loving care and confidence(自信心) like that.
If Mrs. White had used her red pen more often, I probably wouldn’t be telling you about this now, Whenever I look back on those encouraging 43 from Mrs.White, I feel they just look 44 real ones in the night sky-bright, shiny, and guiding me on my way somewhere. I do believe she was such a 45 teacher, who tried to use a red pen less to keep the joy, wonder and excitement in a child’s mind.
Thanks to Mrs. White, I have no fear about writing. Also, I’m not afraid of any mistake in my life!

四、阅读理解(共10小题,每题2分,计20分)
A
I think it is safe to say that snakes are not popular among most people. It would be hard to find a person who is neutral (中立的), or simply doesn’t care one way or the other. What I wonder is why something even without legs causes such great fear.[来源:Zxxk.Com]
Snakes are quite useful, but that doesn’t seem to matter. Snakes help control the population of mice. Without snakes, perhaps we would find mice everywhere. Most of us, however, would rather see a mouse than a snake.
The poison argument (毒性的争论) is a strong one. Some snakes are poisonous, and this causes people’s death. However, the poisonous snakes are only a small number. We can’t say all the snakes are bad just because of a few dangerous ones.
And what do we do with the people who really like snakes They like snakes even more strongly than we dislike them. These people learn about them, find them out, and watch them carefully. Why? The only reason I can think of is that these people are open-minded. They are able to put aside differences and welcome the snake as a friend.
Whatever the reason for our like or dislike, snakes do something good in the circle of life. They would prefer to be left alone, and that is what we should do. If you’re lucky, you might not run across more than a few of them in a lifetime. That would be fine with most of us.
46. How does the writer describe the appearance of snakes?
A. Something not popular among people
B. Something even without legs.
C. A person who is neutral.
D. A person who cares about nothing.
47. People who really like snakes are open-minded because they ______.
A. are able to deal with poisonous snakes
B. think all the snakes are poisonous
C. are able to put aside differences
D. take part in the poison argument

How often do you use your car? Can you use your car less often? Do you know the following facts in the UK?
·About 50% of all car journeys are just for fun.
·Over 80% people go to work by car.
·25% car journeys are under two miles.
·70% car journeys are under five miles.
WALKING & CYCLING
Instead of using the car for short journeys, why not walk or ride a bicycle? Walking is the most popular form of exercise—it’s healthy and it can save money. If you work nearby, try walking or cycling instead of driving. Walking your children to school gives them valuable road experience.
BUSES
Bus companies are using new buses: some run on new fuels which produce less pollution; some have easier access(通路)for disabled and old people. There are special traffic lanes (行车道) to make bus journeys easier. So do something to help solve the pollution problem—let the bus take you to work and your children to school.
TRAINS
All car journeys, long or short, can be hard work. For some trips, it is wiser to take the train. Leave your car at home and walk, cycle or take a bus to and from the station. Train travel is fast, safe and comfortable. Train tickets are not always expensive.
48. How many of car journeys are just for fun in the UK?
A. 25%. B. About 50%. C. 70%. D. Over 80%.

British people are famous for drinking tea. But brother and sister, Sarah and Bobby Green, became young millionaires when they opened a chain of American-style coffee shops in the UK.
Having the idea: It started when Sarah took a weekend trip to New York to visit her brother Bobby. One evening, in a Thai restaurant, Sarah told Bobby how much she wished she could buy American-style coffee in London. Bobby suggested they started their own coffee shop. Sarah fell in love with the idea.
Doing the Research: Back in London, she spent a whole day on the London subway, getting off the train at different stations to taste the coffee. “It was terrible, and I knew there was a gap (空缺) in the market.” In 1995, they opened their first Coffee Republic shop in central London.
Making it work: The first year was very difficult. British people were not used to the names of American coffees, like latte and macchiato. But being successful was their dream and they were not going to give up. Today, there are over 100 Coffee Republic shops all over the country and the company has £30 million a year.
Advice for others: Sarah has now written a best-selling book about their experience, called Anyone Can Do It ! She hopes it will help other young people to start their own businesses(生意,企业). She says, “If you think you have the energy, then get out and follow your dream.”

Do you know there is an earthquake every thirty seconds in the world? But don’t worry because most of them are so small that they cannot be felt. Only a few hurt people. Many earthquakes happen in China ,too. Are you ready for the next earthquake? We have some advice for you on how to keep safe in an earthquake. When the earthquake happens, protect yourself first. The life is the most important because where there is a life, there is hope. Don’t go back to get your money or other things.
If you are at home, hide under a desk. Stay away from windows because anything may fall on you.
If you are outdoors, try to move away from buildings and streetlights. They may fall on you. If you are in a shop and far from the door, don’t run outside. Everyone will run outside so that people may hurt each other. Hide under a desk. Don’t get into a lift during an earthquake.
If you are in a moving car, drive to the side of the road, stop as quickly as possible, and stay in the car. Do not try to drive across bridges. It’s dangerous.
