It's wise that students sometimes step out of the classroom, after all, they can learn a lot from the world we see outside the school windows. Let's take a look at what some teenagers got up to recently when they took a break from their textbooks.
Lu Runqiu , 17, Shanghai No. 3 Girls School
Earlier this month our class had a week away from the campus to work in a field in the suburbs (郊区).We learned how local farmers grow their vegetables and prepare watermelon plants so they will survive the winter. We helped the farmers harvest cotton and soybeans and weed the field. But in the evenings we couldn't just fall into our beds and talk away the time till sleep. We had the mid-term exams to think about-we would sit them just five days after we left the farmers.
However, to tell the truth I would really like to go back. I really miss-the food-the potatoes, tomatoes, cabbages, come and eggs are delicious, much better than anythin; we can get in the city ! All in all, I' d say it was a great experience.
Luo Sai, 16, No. 1 High School Attached to Central Chin a Normal University in Wuhan Imagine having to walk for five hours! But that's exactly what we did two weeks ago for our out-of-school experience. At the beginning, we were laughing and talking all the time, so excited were we. But we soon learned we needed strength to keep going on , and singing " Unity Is Strength" really helped with that. We walked for 22km, stopping just a handful of times before we reached the military center. In the end, our feet were swollen(肿胀的) . We had had little experience walking such a distance, but I think the day taught us something: how important it is to presevere ! We sweated, but we grew.

Earthquake rescue robots have experienced their final tests in Beijing. Their designers say with these robots, rescuers will be able to buy more time to save lives during an earthquake.
This robot looking like a helicopter, is called the detector-bot . It's about 4 meters long, and it took about 4 years to develop the model. Its main functions(作用) are to collect information from the air, and send goods of up t0 30kilos, to people trapped by an earthquake.
This robot has a high definition 360 degree panoramic(全景) camera. It can work day and night and will also be able to send the latest pictures from the quake area.
Dr. Qi Juntong, Chinese Academy of Science, said, "The most important feature of this robot is that it doesn't need a .distant control. We just set the destination(目的地) information on it, and then it takes off, and lands by itself. It flies as high as 3,000 meters, and as fast as 100 kilometers per hour. "
This robot has a different function-it can change as the environment changes. Its main job is to search for any signs of life in places where human rescuers are unable to go.
As well as a detector(探测器) that finds victims and detects poisonous gas, a camera is placed in the 40 centimeter long robot, which can work in the dark.
Another use for the rescuers is the supply bot , with its 10 meter long pipe. People who are trapped in the ruins, will be able to get supplies including oxygen and liquids.
Experts have said that the robots will enter production, and serve as part of the national earth- quake rescue team as soon as next year.

C篇
I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签 ) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, "Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!" Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬 ) under her covers, sobbing.
Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart,
Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn't noticed Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me. "Thanks."

D篇
Home to me means a sense of familiarity and nostalgia(怀旧). It’s fun to come home. It looks the same. It smells the same. You’ll realize what’s changed is you. Home is where we can remember pain, love and some other experiences: We parted here; My parents met here; I won three championships here.
If I close my eyes, I can still have a clear picture in mind of my first home. I walk in the door and see a brown sofa surrounding a low glass-top wooden table. To the right of the living room is my first bedroom. It’s empty, but it’s where my earliest memories are.
There is the dining room table where I celebrated birthdays and where I cried on Halloween---when I didn’t want to wear the skirt my mother made for me. I always liked standing on that table because it made me feel tall and strong. If I sit at this table, I can see my favorite room in the house, my parents’ room. It is simple: a brown wooden dresser lines the right side of the wall next to a television and a couple of photos of my grandparents on each side. Their bed is my safe zone(区域). I can jump on it anytime---waking up my parents if I am scared or if I have an important announcement that cannot wait until the morning.
I’m lucky because I know my first home still exists. It exists in my mind and heart, on a physical property(住宅)on West 64th street on the western edge of Los Angeles. It is proof I lived, I grew, and I learned.
Sometimes when I feel lost, I lie down and shut my eyes, and I go home. I know it’s where I’ll find my family, my dogs, and my belongings. I purposely leave the window open at night because I know I’ll be blamed by Mom. But I don’t mind, because I want to hear her say my name, which reminds me I’m home.
32. Why does the author call her parents’ bed her “safe zone”(Paragraph 3)?
A. It is her favorite place to play.
B. Her needs can be satisfied there.
C. Her grandparents’ photos are lined on each side.
D. Her parents always play together with her there.
33. What can be learned from the passage?
A. The old furniture is still in the author’s first bedroom.
B. The author can still visit her first physical home in Los Angeles.
C. The author’s favorite room in her first home is the dining room.
D. Many people of the author’s age can still find their first physical homes.
34. Sometimes when she feels lost, the author will_________ .
A. open the window at night
B. lie down in bed to have a dream
C. try to bring back a sense of home
D. go to Los Angeles to visit her mom
35. What is the author’s purpose of writing this passage?
A. To express how much she is attached to her home.
B. To declare how much she loves her first house.
C. To describe the state of her family. D. To look back on her childhood.

Forgiveness(宽恕)
To forgive is a virtue(美德), but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.
___36__Try the following steps:
Calm yourself. __37__You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.
Don’t wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don’t see things the same way. __38__ Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.
Take the control
