Whether it is Mozart or Miley, your choice of music could determine whether you will perform well at your job.A new study suggests that listening to music in the office improves the speed and accuracy of tasks such as data entry, proof reading and problem solving. In an office-based experiment,88 per cent of participants were found to produce their most accurate work when listening to music.
The study also found that 81 per cent completed their fastest work when music was played. And it matters what type of music you listen to.For instance,if you’re doing your tax returns, then classical music is the most effective as it improves maths skills.
Listening to Jessie J or Justin Bieber could also improve your speed, with 58 per cent of participants completing data entry tasks faster while listening to pop songs.During proof-reading,dance music, such as David Guetta, had the biggest positive impact with participants increasing their speed by 20 per cent compared to tests undertaken with no music at all.Dance music also had a positive effect on spell-checking with a 75 per cent pass rate compared to 68 per cent when no music was played at all.
The research, undertaken by Brighton-based Mindlab International, suggests that silent offices may be the least productive. The Music Works experiment revealed a positive correlation between music and productivity.Overall,it showed that when listening to music, nine out of ten people performed better, said Dr David Lewis, chairman of Mindlab International.

In most situations, light helps us see.But when it comes to looking at the night sky, light is actually a kind of pollution. It prevents our view of some of life’s most striking sights: stars, planets, and even galaxies(银河系).
“When I was a little boy,I loved the night sky.I remember looking up and the sky was filled with stars.I became an astronomer because I was amazed by their beauty,” says Robert Gent,“Now in most big cities kids can’t see the stars like I did.”
Normally, about 2,500 individual (单个的) stars are visible to the human eyes without using any special equipment. But because of light pollution, you actually see just 200 to 300 and fewer than a dozen from some cities.Only one in three Americans can see our own galaxy with the naked eyes. Those people live far away from the lights of big cities, office buildings, and shopping malls.
Fortunately, there’s an inexpensive and useful way.If we shine lights down at the ground instead of up into the sky,and use lower brightness levels,we can save big amounts of energy and keep the beauty of the night sky. Many cities and towns have passed laws limiting lights at night, making sure enough shine for safety without creating much light pollution.
Light pollution affects more than our view of the heavens and can harm wildlife.Migrating birds(候鸟)sometimes fly over cities and become confused by the brightness, flying in circles until they drop from exhaustion.Sea turtles need dark beaches for nesting and won’t approach bright lights.Too much light at night may even affect human health. For all these reasons, researchers are working on ways to use lights only when and where they are truly needed.Everyone deserves to look up at the sky.
9.According to the text, using our naked eyes,________.
A.people in remote areas can see more stars than those in big cities

D.avoid much light pollution
11.What does the fourth paragraph mainly talk about?
A.The cause of light pollution.
B.The way to reduce light pollution.
C.The effect of light pollution.
D.People’s attitude towards light pollution.

Professor Martin’s report says that children who attend a number of schools, because their parents have to move around the country, probably make slow progress in their studies. There are also signs, says Professor Martin, that an unusually large number of such children are mentally affected.
The professor says “It’s true,my personal feeling is that children should stay in one school. Our feelings are based on research and not on any personal feelings that I or many assistants may have on the subject.”
Captain Thomas James,an army lectures for the past 20 years and himself a father of two, said,“I’ve never heard such rubbish.Taking me for example,no harm is done to the education of my children who change school regularly—if they keep to the same system,as in our Army school. In my experience—and I’ve known quite a few of them—Army children are as well-adjusted (适应良好的) as any others,if not more so.What the professor doesn’t appear to appreciate is the fact that in such situations children will adapt (适应) much better than grown-ups.”
When this was put to Professor Martin,he said that at no time has his team suggested that all such children were backward or mentally affected in some way,but simply that in their experience there was a clear tendency (倾向).
“Our findings show that while the very bright child can deal with regular changes without harming his or her general progress in studies, the majority (大多数) of children suffer from constantly (不断地) having to enter a new learning situation.”

A.is opposite of what his report has shown
B.is in a way supported by his research

14.From the passage,we can conclude that Captain James’s children________.
A.have been affected by changing schools

D.discuss their education regularly with their father
15.About children and grown-ups,Captain James says that children________.
