I had here a group of 32 Chinese students study in Nottingham University, who want to go on a seven-days tour during the Christmas days. I hope we can have a coach that will take us to Scotland but then bring us back to Nottingham. We also need a guide who speak standard English and knows Scotland well. I would be so grateful if you could work a trip plan as soon as possible and tell me our accommodation and meals as well as how much each of us has to pay for. Singles' Day ---- the Chinese opposite of Valentine’s Day has turned into a massive online shopping event. It is a day when single people are supposed to buy themselves presents. But there are sociological reasons behind China's “celebration” of single life. And the imbalance could have big consequences for the country. There were 34 million more men than women in China in 2011. Part of that is natural – usually there are 105 boys born for every 100 girls. But the Chinese gender ratio  (性别比例) at birth is much more obvious. It was 116 boys to 100 girls in 2012. The one child policy is largely to blame. Brought in to limit population expansion, the policy allows only one child per family. But because male children are seen as more valuable, as well as more likely to support their parents in old age, some parents choose to have a son over a daughter. The result is that large numbers of men will likely never get married. In fact, one study has predicted that by 2030, 1 in 5 Chinese men in their 30s will never have married, while another states that 94% of unmarried people in China are men. Traditionally, China h as seen high levels of marriage, usually among the young. Besides, the increased education and career opportunities for women have meant that marriages are happening later. It is also traditional that women often marry men of a higher socioeconomic status than themselves. So women at the top and men at the bottom find themselves alone. One study has even suggested a link between an imbalanced gender ratio and growth in violent crime in the country.  Singles’ Day can’t solve all the problems China’s singles face. Indeed, it is possible that it is causing even more problems, as men resort to increasingly risky lines of work to increase their chances of gaining money and thus a wife. I am worried that as money starts to overcome romance, there is evidence that China ' s marriage market is increasingly materialistic. 28.In 2012, if 50 girls were born, how many boys were probably born? A. 50.              B. 52.             C. 58.            D. 60. 29.What made women in China get married late? A. Their support of the government’s late marriage policy. B. Their higher education level and more work chances. C. That they expect to enjoy their single time when young. D. That there are too many excellent young men to choose from. 30.What’s the writer’s attitude to the imbalance gender ratio in China? A. Optimistic        B. Concerned         C. Indifferent        D.  Unknown 31.We can learn from the passage that       . A. Singles' Day is celebrated all over the world. B. by 2030, 1 in 5 Chinese women in their 30s will be out of marriage. C. an imbalanced gender ratio is related to the growth in violent crime. D. Singles' Day will solve all the problems China’s singles face. Besides, the increased education and career opportunities for women have 的问题,故选C。 22. 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 It is reported that six Chinese ships have entered waters near islands claimed by both China and Japan. China said the ships were carrying out “law enforcement” to demonstrate its jurisdiction(管辖权) over the islands, known as Diaoyu in China and Senkaku in Japan. At least two of the ships left after the Japanese coast guard issued a warning, Japanese officials say. The action came after Japan sealed a deal to buy three of the islands from their private Japanese owner. Japan controls the uninhabited but resource-rich East China Sea islands, which are also claimed by Taiwan. The Japanese Coast Guard said the first two Chinese boats entered Japan’s territorial waters at 06:18 local time, followed by another fleet of four other ships just after 07:00. The first two ships then left the area. A third ship left later on Friday morning, one report said. No force was used, Japanese officials added. “Our patrol(巡逻) ships are currently telling them to leave our country’s territorial waters,” the coastguard said in a statement. The Chinese foreign ministry confirmed that its ships were there. “These law enforcement and patrol activities are aimed to demonstrate China’s jurisdiction over the Diaoyu Islands and ensure the country’s maritime interests,” a statement said. The US has called for “cooler heads to be accepted” as tension worsens between China and Japan over the islands. US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is going to visit both Japan and China from this weekend as part of a tour of the region. The dispute(争端) has seriously damaged diplomatic relations between China and Japan and threatens to damage the strong trading relationship, says the BBC’s John Sudworth in Beijing. The dispute has also caused strong nationalist emotions on both sides that makes it very difficult to be seen to be backing down, says our reporter. The Japanese government says it is buying the islands to promote their stable and peaceful management. China on the other hand, says the islands have historically been its territory and fishing grounds. Meanwhile Japan’s newly-appointed ambassador to China, Shinichi Nishimiya, remains in hospital in Tokyo. He was appointed on Tuesday to replace Uichiro Niwa, who has been criticized for his dealing with the worst diplomatic dispute between Japan and China in recent years. 72. The Diaoyu Islands are actually inhabited(居住) by               . A. Japan                         B. China                        C. Taiwan                     D. Nobody 73. Which of the following is TRUE? A. Japan fired at the 6 Chinese ships to warn them to leave the waters. B. China admitted that the 6 ships had been forced to leave the waters. C. The US called on both sides to calm down. D. Shinichi Nishimiya was unconscious(昏迷的) in the hospital because somebody attacked him. 74. Why was Uichiro Niwa replaced? A. He isn’t iron(强硬) enough in dealing with the diplomatic disputes between Japan and China. B. His health condition is not good enough to work there. C. He didn’t do well in dealing with the diplomatic dispute about the Diaoyu Islands. D. He criticized the Chinese government publicly in an improper way. 75.
