The government in China plans to end its one-child per family policy(政策) and instead let
families have two children.
People knew the news after an important meeting in Beijing. It’s reported that there are many reasons for the change in policy. One of them is to balance population development. It’s said the move also tries to stop a decreasing birth rate and strengthen the country’s work force.
China has the world's largest population. It carried out the one-child policy in 1980. But the
government permitted only a small number of couples to have two children. For example, some rural(农村的) families were allowed to have two children. A total of 19 rural provinces have a partial two-child policy. It says if the first-born is a girl, couples can have a second child.
In 2013, the Chinese government gave other couples a chance to have two children. Families could have two if one parent was an only child. However, too many young people in the cities are probably no longer interested in having a second child.
At the end of 2014, China had a population of 1.37 billion people. A total of 800 million of them are employed. But that job market population is expected to drop by 2050.With the two-child policy, an increase in births will change the labor shortage, starting in 20 years.

D. Few young people in the cities show much interest in the new policy because of financial pressure.

When students complete a book, they consider the job of reading done. When they are asked
what they have got from the book, quite a few of them can give you some information about the plot(情节). But if we ask them more detailed questions, they have nothing to say. In fact, that is not what a good reader is supposed to do.
To be a good reader, firstly, is to know the background. We need knowledge of the life story of the writer, the culture and society in which the story takes place, Otherwise, it is hardly possible for us to better understand the book or come to realize the theme.
Then, we start to read the book. A good reader will not stop since he has already made a good preparation. He goes through the whole book to get the general idea of it instead of reading off and on.
Next comes an important step-read the book once again and write annotations(注释) when
there is something that impresses us deeply. It helps us get close to the mind of the writer. Many students underestimate( 低估)the importance of writing annotations. They say that they also can understand the writer although they do not write annotations. It is true that it brings us some
trouble of writing, but it also gives us a lot of ideas of our own at the same time.
Finally, a good reader needs to write a book report. It is a time when we can sum up all our thoughts and turn them into a report. We start to think of the characters, the plots and the theme. Some say it is boring but in fact it is fun if we do it. Producing something of our own is really wonderful because we are on our way to be better than a good reader.
All of us move our eyes back and forth from words to sentences to paragraphs. However, as
a good reader, we learn much more from reading one book carefully than we do from reading ten roughly(粗略地).
38. What background should a good reader know before reading a book?
A. The life story of the characters. B. The theme of the book.
C. The society where the story happens. D. The general idea of each paragraph.
39. What does the underlined phrase "off and on" in paragraph 3 mean?
A. 上上下下地 B. 断断续续地 C. 来来回回地 D. 里里外外地
40. According to the passage, a good reader ·
A. can just tell the plots of a book B. can finish reading ten books at a time
C. underestimates the importance of annotating D. will read a book more than once
41. The passage is mainly written to ·
A. ask readers to prepare well before reading B. encourage readers to write a book report
C. tell what a good reader is supposed to do D. remind readers to sum up their thoughts

Einstein often received invitations to explain his theories at different universities. On these trips, his driver was always the same man called Hans. Hans often said to him. “It is a pleasure to drive a talent like you, Dr Einstein.”
One evening, on their way to a university, Einstein said, “I’m so tired. I wish I could avoid giving my lecture tonight, Hans, but I don’t want to let my audience down.”
“I know what to do,” said Hans. “I can give the lecture for you. You can trust me. I’ve listened to your lecture so many times that I’ve learnt it by heart. No one knows you at this university, so they won’t find out.”
So, they changed places. At the university, Hans was guided to the front of the hall. Einstein took a seat, listened to Hans give his lecture without difficulty, and joined in the applause (掌声) at the end.
However, before Hans left, a man shouted, “I’d like to ask you a question.” He then asked a question so difficult that Hans had no idea what he was talking about.
Einstein turned pale. “Oh no! 51 ,” he thought. “Now we’re in trouble.” But Hans just laughed and said, “That’s such an easy question that even my driver can answer it. Hans, please…”
