Period 1 Types of sentences

V. Teaching procedures
Step 1. Lead-in
Play a period of flash about Exclamatory Sentence.
Step 2. Language focus(1)
1. Get students to go through the first part contents of grammar and answer some questions.
2.Ask students to read the example sentences to find out the rules of the four types of sentences.
1) Declarative Sentence
He likes surfing the Internet. She cannot play computer games.
They hardly know anything about it.
2) Interrogative Sentence
a.一般疑问句
Does he like surfing the Internet? ---Yes, he does.
---Can’t she play the computer games? ---No, she can’t.
b. 特殊疑问句
疑问词有 who, whose, what, which, where, when, why, how, etc.
Who likes surfing the Internet? Where did he play computer games?
c. 选择疑问句
Does he like playing computer games or chatting on-line?
Which do you prefer, playing computer or chatting on-line?
d. 反意疑问句
He likes surfing the car, __________? She can’t play computer games, ________?
Let’s go to surf the Internet, _________? There are many computer games, _________ ?
3) Imperative Sentence
a. 带第二人称的祈使句
Be quiet, please. Don’t make any noise! You clean the blackboard.
b. 带第一、三人称的祈使句
Let me try again. Let him be here by 10 o’clock.
4) Exclamatory Sentence
a. Caused by “how”
How beautiful the flower is! How fast the car travels! How clever a boy he is!
b. Caused by “what”
What a nice car it is! What fine weather (it is)!
2. Practice (pair work)
1) Ask students to find out the types of the sentences given.
a. Stand up, please. b. Shall we go there or wait here?
c. She can play computer games. d. I don’t like chatting on-line.
e. What are you going to do this Sunday? f. How lucky he is!
g. Does he surf the Internet at the weekend? h. It isn’t a fine day today, is it?
2) Let students rewrite the sentences.
a. He likes surfing the car. (改为一般疑问句)
b. The boy used to play computer games.(改为否定句)
c. A rocket travels fast through the air.(改为感叹句)
d. They hardly know anything about it.(改为反意疑问句)
Step 3. Language focus(2)
1. Get students to read the second part contents to know the three types sentences.
1) Simple Sentence
a. Tom and I like surfing the car.
b. She can’t play the computer games and knows nothing about it.
2) Compound Sentence
a. He is a basketball fan, and his wife is a volleyball fan.
b. He works hard while his brother is a lazy bone.
3) Complex Sentence
a. We don’t know whether he likes playing computer games.
b. I like surfing the Internet, which can offer a large amount of information.
c. I like surfing the Internet, because it can offer a large amount of information.
2. Let students find out the structures of simple sentences, compound sentences and complex sentences, using the examples given.
Step4. Extension : pair work
1. Ask students to find out the types of the sentences given.
2. Read the passage and find out the different types of sentences.
If someone asks me: “Do you like music?”, I will answer him or her yes, because I think music is an important part of our lives. How exciting the rock is!
Different people have different ideas about music. I like rock music and my favorite rock band (the “Foxy Ladies” ) is one of the most famous rock bands in the world. But mother always shouts to me, “Stop playing the rock!” My classmate Jane likes jazz music, as she thinks jazz is really cool.
Step 4. Summary Sum up the focal points of the whole class.
Step 5. Assignments
1. Read the text of this unit again to find out different types of sentences.
