Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of society. Others, however,believe that school is the place to learn this.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

It is always said that parents are the first the best teachers of their children. So a host of people believe that parents should be responsible for children’s education and teach them how to be good members of society. However, others advocate that school is the place to learn this. In my opinion, both of the two views are too extreme and should complement with each other.

There are two reasons of the advocators for the former opinion. Firstly, parents are the first and most intimate people of the children after their birth. The years before children going to school is the most important time to cultivate their habits and the sense of the society. Parents play vital roles which can not be replaced by school, in teaching children some basic social rules and how to be good social members during this time. Secondly, parents usually have only one or several children, which is much less than that number in a class of school. Therefore, it is obvious that parents can pay more attention and more focus on their children compared with teachers in school. Conversely, a teacher may be not capable of taking care of and teaching the children to be good social members as well because of the limited energy.

In contrast, the supporters of the latter opinion have several reasons to support it. On one hand, it is quite common that children spend more time at school with teachers, especially for that families with both two busy parents. This phenomenon indicates that children have more opportunities and time learn more social rules and behaviors which they are expected from teachers or even from other children. On the other hand, the teachers in school are more professional in teaching children with their knowledge of psychology and education. So they can handle problems of children in different ages more scientifically and guide children to be qualified members of society.

Overall, I think that the responsibility of teaching children how to be good members of society belongs to both parents and schools. Both of them play irreplaceable roles in children’s education, but should take common but differentiated responsibility. I tend to believe that parents are expected to dominate in this problem, and schools should provide specialized help for them.
