parents.,Austen deliberately depict, dipikt,(刻画),ed,were ordinary people and things, but there are the most profound descriptions about plenty of various kinds of social relationships in the story.,A major theme in much of Austens works is the importance of environment and upbringing on the development of young peoples character and morality.,The story follows the main character,Elizabeth,Bennet,as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education and marriage in the society of the, landed gentry, dentri,(,绅士,)of early 19th-century England,.,First,,,Mr.Bingley,a wealthy young bachelor, moving into,Netherfield,Park in the, neighbourhood,of the,Bennet, family,,,is soon well-received,while his friend,Mr.Darcy, makes a less, favourable, first impression by appearing proud and condescending.,When Elizabeth,Bennet, overhearuvhi,(无意中听到),s herself slighted, slait,(轻视),by Mr.Darcy, she forms a prejudice against him.,Mr.Bingley singles out Elizabeths elder sister,Jane, for particular attention and soon they fell in love.,On paying a visit to,Mr.Bingleys sister,Jane catches cold and is forced to stay at,Netherfield, for several days.,Elizabeth arrives to nurse her sister and is thrown into frequent company with Mr.Darcy who begins to perceive, psi:v,(感知,感觉,察觉;意识到,理解),his attachment to her.,The,Bennets,cousin,Mr.Collins,a clergyman,kl:dimn,(牧师),pays a visit to the,Bennets,.,Mr.,Bennet,and Elizabeth are rather repulse, ripls,(厌恶),d by his self-important and pedantic, pidntik,迂腐的,nature.Soon Mr.Collins is to choose Elizabeth as wife.,At the same time,Elizabeth acquaints with,Mr.Wickham,a militia officer stationed in the village who claims to have been very seriously mistreated by Mr.Darcy.,At a ball given by Mr.Bingley at,Netherfield,Mr.Darcy, realises, that Mr.Bingley and Jane will marry.Meanwhile,Mr.Darcy dislikes the public display of poor manners and decorum, dik:rm,(礼貌),of the,Bennet, family.,The following morning,Mr.Collins proposes marriage to Elizabeth, but she refuses him and this much to her mothers distress as the five daughters are facing a future as penniless spinster, spinst,(,未婚女人,老处女,)s upon their fathers death, but her father supports.,ThenMr.Collins becomes engaged to,Elizabeths close friend,Charlotte as she doesnt want to become the ridiculed spinster-figure.And Mr.Bingley abruptly, brptli,(突然地),quits,Netherfield, and returns to London, and Elizabeth is convinced that Mr.Darcy and Mr.Bingleys sister have conspire, knspai,(密谋),d to separate him from Jane.,In the spring,Elizabeth invites Charlotte and Mr.Collins.Elizabeth and her hosts are frequently invited to the home of,Lady Catherine,de,Bourgh, who happens to be Mr.Darcys aunt, and soon Mr.Darcy arrives to visit.Mr.Darcy finds himself, again, attracted to Elizabeth and proposes to her.,Elizabeth, however, has recently knows Mr.Darcys role in separating Mr.Bingley and Jane and she angrily, charges him with, pride, with destroying her sisters happiness, with his disgraceful treatment of Mr.Wickham, and with having conducted himself in an ungentlemanly manner.,Mr.Darcy,responds with,a letter clearing him and showing that the blame lies with Mr.Wickham, proving Wickham to be a liar and philander, filnd,(调戏追逐女人),er,who tried to seduce, sidju:s,(勾引),Darcys younger sister(Georgiana)to profit from her, dowery, dauri,(,嫁妆,)after he wasted his own inheritance.,Regarding,rig:di,(,关于,)Mr.Bingley and Jane,Mr.Darcy claims that he had observed in Jane no reciprocal, risiprkl,(相互的),interest in Mr.Bingley.Upon reading the letter,Elizabeth comes to acknowledge the truth of Mr.Darcys assertion,s:n,(断言),s.,Some months later, while on a holiday,Elizabeth and her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner visit,Pemberley,Mr.Darcys estate, believing him absent, when he returns unexpectedly.Although surprised to find her there,Mr.Darcy treats the Gardiners with great civility,siviliti,(礼貌),.Mr.Darcy introduces Elizabeth to,his sister, and,Elizabeth begins to,realise, her attraction to Mr.Darcy.,Their renewed acquaintance, however,is cut short by news that Lydia,Elizabeths youngest sister, has run away with Mr.Wickham.Elizabeth and the Gardiners return to,Longbourne, where Elizabeth grieve, gri:v,(伤心),s that her acquaintance with Mr.Darcy will end because of her sisters disgrace.,Lydia and Mr.Wickham are soon found by Uncle Gardiner, upon which Wickham is forced to marry Lydia(much to Lydias delight)to try to stem stem,(堵住),the tide of disgrace.,Upon visiting her family,a gleeful, gli:fl,(快活的),Lydia, disclosediskluz,(泄露,透露),s that Mr.Darcy was present at her wedding while boasting to her sisters.Elizabeth finds that Mr.Darcy was responsible for finding the couple and arranging their marriage,at great expense to himself.,Soon after,Mr.Bingley, encouraged by Mr.Darcy, returns to,Longbourne, and proposes marriage to Jane, who immediately accepts.,Lady Catherine de,Bourgh, then makes an unexpected visit to warn Elizabeth against marrying Mr.Darcy, believing her to be too low born for her nephew, nevju,:,nefju,:,(侄子,外甥),that the,Bennet, family is forever disgraced by the, behaviour,of Lydia, and that Darcy should marry her own daughter(who is sickly, sikli,(多病的,),dull and boring).,While confused at the source of Lady Catherines suspicions,Elizabeth refuses to comply,kmplai,(遵从,依从,服从),.Mr.Darcy,upon hearing this, realises, that Elizabeths opinion of him may have changed and again proposes.Elizabeth accepts, and both of the elder,Bennet, sisters are married.,In,Pride and Prejudice, the failure of Mr.and Mrs.,Bennet,(particularly the latter)as parents is blamed for Lydias lack of moral judgment;,Darcy,on the other hand, has been taught to be principled and scrupulously, honourable, but is also proud and overbearing.Kitty, rescued from Lydias bad influence and spending more time with her older sisters after they marry,is said to improve greatly in their superior society.,
