13、Once my father asked me to hold his hammer while he repaired something, so we could have some time to talk to each other.
For 22 years, after I left home for college, he called me every Sunday at 9 am. He was always interested in my life and how my family was doing, and I never once heard him complain about his own life.
Nine years ago when I bought my first house, my father, 67 years old, spent eight hours a day painting it for three days. He would not allow me to pay someone to have it done. All he asked for was a glass of iced tea and for me to hold a paint brush for him and talk to him. But I was too busy.
Five years ago, at age 71, my father spent five hours putting together a swingset (秋千组) for my daughter. Again, all he asked was that I get him a glass of iced tea and talk to him. But again, I was too busy.
Four years ago, my father drove all the way from Denver to Topeka, with an eight-foot Colorado blue spruce (蓝叶云杉) in his trunk, so that my husband and I could have a part of Colorado growing on our land. I was preparing for a trip that weekend and couldn’t spend much time with him.
Then, one day, my father telephoned me as usual, this time from my sister’s home in Florida. We talked about the tree he had brought me, “Fat Albert”, but that morning he called it “Fat Oscar”, and he seemed to have forgotten some things. I had to get to church, so I cut the conversation short.
The call came at 4:40 pm that day: my father was in hospital in Florida with an aneurysm (动脉瘤). I got on a plane immediately, and on the way I thought of all the times I had not taken the time to talk to my father. I realized that I had no idea who he was or what his deepest thoughts were. I promised that when I arrived, I would make up for lost time.
I arrived in Florida at 1 am. My father had passed away at 9:12 pm. This time it was he who did not have time to talk to me.

“That’s true.” The businessman said. “What do you want we should do?” “If you don’t know the answer to a riddle, you pay me $100. And if I don’t know the answer, I’ll pay you $50.” The farmer said. The businessman thought about this, then he said, “OK. That’s fair. Who will go first?”
“I will,” The farmer said. “Here is my riddle. What has three legs when it walks, but only two legs when it flies?” The business man repeated the riddle, “What has three legs when it walks, but only two legs when it flies? Mm, that’s a good one. I’m afraid I don’t know the answer.” He gave the farmer $100, then said, “Tell me the answer. 15、Imagine a classroom missing the one thing that has long been considered a necessary part to reading and writing? No paper,no books,no test paper.Nor are there any pencils or pens which always seem to run out of ink at the important moment.
A "paperless classroom" is what more and more schools are trying to achieve.Students don't do any handwriting in this class. Instead, they use hand-sized or specially-designed computers. The teacher downloads information from Internet libraries and sends them to every student's personal computer.
Having computers also means that students can use the Web.They can look up information on any subject they're studying from math to social science.High school teacher Judy Herrell in Florida,US,described how her class used the Web to learn about what's going on in the world.
"We could touch every side of the country through different sites from the forest to refugee(难民) camps," she said."Using a book that's three or four years old is impossible " And exams can go online too.At a high school in Tennessee,US,students take tests on their own computers. The teacher records the grades on the network for everyone to see and then copies them to his own grade book on the Internet.
A paperless classroom is a big step towards reducing the waste of paper.High school teacher Stephanie Sorrell in Kentucky,US,said she used to give about900 pieces of paper each week to each student.

17、You may have heard the saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Since lemons are thought to be bitter(苦的)and lemonade sweet, the saying tells you to make the best out of a bad situation.
Unluckily, when something bad happens, it's not uncommon for most people to talk about it to anyone who'll listen, and complain about life, "Why me?" That's like getting a bag of lemons, putting them down, and thinking, "Lemons taste bad! I'd rather have chocolate!'' If you don't make anything with the lemons, they will go bad. But what if you did something with them? What if you made lemonade? Isn't it possible to do something similar with a bad situation?
Here's an example: Let's say you're about to go to the movie, but you discover you have a flat tire(瘪胎).You think it a terrible thin. After all, you are really looking forward to spending some time with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Now you're all stressed out. hating the tire, the car, and your life.
