2. Instructional objectives
According to the National Curriculum Standards, students of junior 1 can communicate with each other by using some regular sentence patterns and apply the basic English learning strategy. Then Communication practice should be throughout the course. Thus, the instructive objectives of this lesson should be covered as follows: students should be able to
1) make requests and to answer by using the sentence pattern “What can I do for you ?” ;
2) read, speak and memorize the corresponding Chinese meaning of the words and collocations of the lesson ;
3) locate the main structure of the text and to make dialogues by using the sentence patten ;
4) Be able to communicate with people in a real situation about shopping.

Step 1 Warming-up and leading-in. (3min)
Shopping is the key word of this unit. So the teacher will ask students two questions.
T: Hello, boys and girls. Today we are going to talk about shopping. Do you like shopping?
S: Yes! ……
T: Where do you usually go to buy something?
S: ……(market, supermarket, shops)
Then the teacher leads students to discuss about three places: market, supermarket and clothes shop. The teacher will ask : What can you buy in the......? The student will say something they can buy in the three places: We can buy ....... in the …….This is a way to help students to review news words of this unit.
Step 2 Pre-listening and pair-work. (10min)
The teacher will show some pictures by PPT to students in order to tell them Mother’s Day is coming.
T: Mother's Day is coming, what would you like to buy for your mum ?
S1: I want to buy ...... for my mum.
S2: I want to buy ...... for my mum.
……
T: Ok, let’s go shopping to choose a present for our mums.
Then The teacher will teach some sentence patterns to students. The students will learn how to ask questions when they buy things in the shop. Then the teacher set two tasks(two real situations in life) for students. Students are supposed to do the pair-work. Teacher will write the key sentences on the blackboard so that students can use them to make a dialogue.
1. What color does she like?
Green/ red/ blue/ white/ black/ pink......
2. What size does she take ?
Large/ middle / small
3. How much is it/ are they ?
5 yuan a kilo.
The students practise these sentence patterns together:
A. -- Can I help you ?
-- Yes, I want to buy ......
-- How much is it/ are they ?
-- ** yuan a kilo.
B. -- What can I do for you ?
-- Yes, I would like to buy ......
-- What color do you like ?
-- ......

Step 3 Listening and reading. (15 min)
The teacher will ask students to listen to the tape carefully and finish the questions in the book. The students will listen to the tape for twice. After the second listening, teacher will ask students to check answers together.
Then students will listen to the text and answer some questions. The listening task consists of two parts: in the shop and in the market.
1. What does Lingling want to buy for her mum ?
A. T-shirt B. sweater C. dress
2. What color does Lingling's mum like ?
A. red B. purple C. blue
3. What size does Lingling's mother take ?
A. large B. middle C. small
4. How much is the T-shirt ?
A. 198 yuan B. 99 yuan C. 396 yuan
When they finish the first part, teacher ask them to read the whole dialogue in different roles. ( the boys are shop worker, the girls are Lingling)
5. How much are the sausages ?
A. 38 yuan a kilo B. 19 yuan a kilo C. 76 yuan a kilo
6. How much are the strawberries?
A. 20 yuan a kilo B. 30 yuan a kilo C. 10 yuan a kilo
When they finish the other part, teacher ask them to read the whole dialogue in different roles. ( the boys are market worker, the girls are Lingling)
Step 4 Practice (role play)
Teacher let students learn to earn money to buy a present for their mums. Then teacher lead them to find a part-time job in three different shops. They will be the shop worker or the customers. And students make their own dialogues by using the sentences they learn during the class. Students will practice their spoken English and know how to shop in English in real situations.
Step 5 Homework
Suppose you are the boss of a shop and make a dialogue between you and your customer.
