Getting to know the World Outside the Campus
From the beginning of the history of our education, we have been limited in a small world---campus. Almost what we see and what we hear are just something happening on campus. So little do we know about the world outside that we just get limited knowledge and live a limited life. The world outside the campus is of vital significance to us, and what are happening outside may have very great effect on us. Sometimes we are expected to know some of them as they may get your exam scores higher.
In general, we come to know the outside world by watching TV, reading papers or some ads. Also we have an easy and quick access to them ---the internet. I am in favor of a very good way---reading newspapers, which means, we can get to know the outside world by reading some news and reports, like the columns “News of the week”, “Today’s World”, etc. At the same time, we can improve our English and expand our world---building.
Let our hearts, eyes and ears fly out of the campus. They can get more important things back to us. Don’t spend our idle time on computer games. I prefer to surf the line to get to know the colorful world outside our campus which can show you a vivid life outside. It must be more challenge than the games. (232 words)

Practice Makes Perfect
As is known to all, practice makes perfect. Does it mean that the more practice you do., the better it is? Of course not. In my opinion, doing the same thing repeatedly without any new idea is not only of no use, but also a waste of time and energy. We need practice just to perfect the way we work.
How to understand that? Take learning English as an example. When starting to learn English, we found the grammar was too difficult for us to learn. However, as the amount of practice becomes larger, we’ll find grammar learning easy. As a result, our English is perfected.
Also, it is the same to the other field. For example, sports call for more practice than other field. The practice makes sportspersons more skillful and makes their performances perfect as well.
As is stated above, you see what practice makes perfect. Make full use of the practice and then you are perfect. (172 words)

Global Shortage of Fresh Water
Water is an essential part of people’s life. Everyday we use water for drinking and washing; and in agriculture and industry water is also needed in great quantity. We human beings could not live without water.
However, many people think we have plenty of water, and they are unaware of the importance of water, which leads them to use water as much as they like. Cases of wasteful consumption of water are very common across the country. Actually, we have to face a serious problem that water shortage has become more and more serious in many cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and other major cities. What has caused such phenomenon? I think the reasons are as follows. Firstly, it is because of the huge population and the development of industry, the amount of fresh water used is also growing rapidly. It is estimated that if such growth is not controlled, our fresh water supply will be used up by the next century. Secondly, it is because water pollution is more and more serious, including industrial wastes and poisonous gases, which make our environment in a worse condition.
Facing those problems, what should we do? On the one hand, in order to solve them government should take effective measure to save water. On the other hand, government should also take effective measures to protect water resources. For instance , government should invest more money to treat its rivers and lakes to improve public awareness about the need to save and protect water resources. (296 words)

The Two-Day Weekend
Now, the weekend no longer means “Sunday”, because we have a two-day weekend a week.
Of course, everybody likes it very much. It not only means we don’t have more time to deal with the things which we are interested in.
To us, the students of college, it’s really a wonderful thing. In the old days, we had to stop doing our favorite things to do housework, just because the time was not enough. But now, we have more free time to do we are interest in. Also we can take a better rest now. Going out of school for a long walk is never a dream, in addition to reviewing what we have learned in the previous week and preparing for the next week’s work.
However, every coin has two sides. If you don’t spend the two days properly, you’ll lose a lot. Some students always think that time is enough, so they do nothing but play computer games and sleep. It is really bad for them. If they continue to do this, they will be regretted for this in the future .
Before the weekend coming, I’ll make a plan. It includes all things I should do, such as playing, studying, washing clothes and so on. Then I’ll do them according to the plan. I think I can make the most use of it in this way.

Advantages of a Job Interview
Nowadays, if you apply for a job, you’re always asked to have a job interview first. Through the interview, both the candidate and the interviewer can have a good opportunity to know each other. So it is very practical and popular in the modern world.
As a candidate, you can get to know something about the job a little better, such as some information about the company and your future work; what kind of responsible you will take on, the length of your working hours, and what kind of rules you have to obey, most of all, your salary. So it’s very important for you to show your self-assurance, which will help you make a good impression. And being a candidate doesn’t mean you are a passive one. After the interview, you can make a second decision, that is, you can see whether the job fits you or not before taking it. On the other hand, the interviewer gains the same advantage.

Can Money Buy Happiness
There are many different thoughts on money. Some people think that money is source of happiness. Delectable food, beautiful clothes, magnificent mansion, cars…all these things bought by money will make them happy. Therefore, to some extent, they think money can buy anything they want and that kind of satisfaction can be called happiness. On the other hand, people think that money is root of all evil. Gambling, robbery murdering and other crimes are just for money. They believe the world will be much better without money. Just because people are eager to live better life, which in such people’s opinion must be based on money, they begin to get it even in an illegal way, so as a matter of fact money is the root of unhappiness.
I think money is of vital important in our life. We can’t live without money. Nevertheless, money can’t buy everything. We can’t buy friendship, love, a happy family, personal capability and all the perfect things with money. So money is just a tool. If we earn and use it in an appropriate way, we will live a happy life. But if we do everything just for money, days will go without happiness. So we should be the master of money, not the slave of it. (213 word)

What electives to choose
Nowadays colleges have various elective courses for students to choose. Students from different department may sit in the same classroom and study what may have nothing to do with their own major. On other hand, though, one student can take several courses that are not interrelated with each other at the same time.
There’s no doubt that elective are welcome by students, but the reasons for each student to make his/her own choice differ from person to person. Some students choose a certain course merely out of their person interest in a certain field, while some may make the utility of the course into consideration and expect to put what they have learned into practice after their graduation. Some students are inclined to choose courses they are familiar with in order to get a good result in the exam, while others simply do not care about the exam and choose what they totally have no idea of.
As for me, the most important thing is my interest. I still never get any joy by working on something that seems boring to me, and I will not work hard on it. I do not weigh too much whether it is useful for my future job, either. As far as I’m concerned, an elective course provides me with a great opportunity to get to know the world that I’m not familiar with yet very curious about. For example, I’m taking an elective course called general biology this semester. Although it has nothing to do with my major, I think elective courses are very beneficial for us, and we should take good advantage of them to help ourselves develop comprehensively.

Should the University Campus Be Open to Tourists?
Universities in China have experienced a remarkable development in the past few years, especially those famous universities. Now visiting famous universities has become a new option for tourists.
But when it comes to the question “Should the University Campus Be Open to Tourists?”, answers vary widely. Some people hold that they should be allowed to visit university campus. First, it can cultivate their interest and enlarge their scope of knowledge. Second, It can enable them to have access to famous professors, artists, scientists and so on. What’s more, to those high school students, this visit will stimulate them to study harder. However, some other people argue that the University campus should not be open to tourists for it will destroy the atmosphere in campus and lead to disorder of daily routine there.
From my point of view, I’m in favor of the idea that University Campus should be open to tourists. On the one hand, this will allow tourists to know what we are doing here and the importance of higher education. On the other hand, it will make us pay more attention to our behavior and try to do our best every minute.
In a word, I prefer to have our campus opened to tourists.

I’m very glad to hear from you. You said that you want to get some information about majors in my university and some advice about how to choose an ideal major. I have thought over and my suggestions are as follow, hoping them helpful.
First, I’d like to introduce the majors in my university to you. The majors here are mostly about engineering, for instance, electrical engineering, environment engineering, chemistry engineering and so on. As far as I know, the most famous one in my university is architecture, and another very good major is chemistry engineering. The graduates from those two majors are always popular with many big companies. Also in my university there are some majors about language, history and so on. However, I don’t think they are your ideal choices since you are so interested in science. Furthermore, the most important factor affecting your choice should be your interest. As me friend has told me: there is no dream that would be fulfilled without your love and endless efforts.” Love is a word that has a meaning that could give you strength to go on when you face difficulties.
Second, if you want to apply for chemistry engineering or architecture, you have to own the following qualifications. You should have a Bachelor degree of Science or Engineering and you should have passed CET-4. On the other hand, you should have mastered the basic knowledge of the major and have your own study plan.
Third, I have some piece of advice about your preparation for the exam. I think you’d better make your knowledge structure systematic, for that the external form can be variable but the inside won’t change. You have to seize the essence, which would make you exhausted. It’s very important to keep a nice state now.
Those above are all that I can give you and I wish you good luck in the exam. You surely have the ability to get very good score! My final words to you are: trust yourself and do the best!

The Day My Classmate Fell Ill(or Get Injured)
I have a classmate named Angle, who is a lovely and bright girl. She is popular with all classmates. One day, news came that Angel had got blood cancer. It really shocked everybody. When I saw her in the hospital, I could not help crying. She was so thin, so weak, and it seemed that only skin and bones were left. Her face was so pale. Even so, she gave us a big smile to comfort us.
We decided to help her save her life. Angel’s family was not very rich and could not afford the operation. All the classmates and teachers began to raise money in school. Some called the media for help. In the end, we succeeded in raising the money for the first operation. We will keep trying until Angel is cured.
Many people offered as much help as they could even though they did not know Angel. I am really touched by this. There is love everywhere as long as we seek for it.

An Eye-Witness Account of a Traffic Accident
When I was going back home from college at four o’clock in the afternoon last Friday, that is June 13th , 2003 , I witnessed a terrible car accident . The accident took place on the Middle Fuxin Road.
As far as I could remember, I was walking on the pavement and a blue Santana swiftly passed by. When it approached a truck parked on the roadside, suddenly, a girl stepped out from behind the truck.
