Your New York Guest trip planner can advise you on the best way to reach all of your places throughout your visit! The Subway It is a very safe way to travel. Stations and directions are clearly marked. One ride costs $2.25 and you pay your fare using a MetroCard, which can be bought in any subway station in the city using cash, credit or debit card. Plan your trip before you go and the subway can easily be the fastest and simplest way to get where you're going. Buses Since buses run so frequently, buying a ticket for 48 or 72 hours of unlimited riding can save you tons of time and money! The all-around-town service has stops in every major neighborhood and will even take you to Brooklyn. For a relaxed sightseeing, this is the way to go. Taxis NYC taxis are a great way to make a quick trip from one part of the city to another, or to cover longer distances when you don't feel comfortable using the subway. Taxis cannot be reserved or called in advance, they may only be called on the street. To know whether an approaching taxi is available (可使用的),just check the lights on the top. If the four numbers in the center are lit up but NOT the “off duty” lights on the side, the taxi is available. If the off duty lights are on or all of the lights are off, the taxi is not accepting fares. When you see an available taxi approaching, just hold up your arm and the driver will pull over and let you in! 21. Which advantage of the subway is NOT mentioned? A. Comfortable. B. Fast. C. Simple. D. Safe. 22. Which may be the cheapest choice for visiting major neighborhoods? A. The one ride subway ticket. B. A bus ticket for 48 hours unlimited riding. C. NYC taxis. D. A bus ticket for 72 hours unlimited riding. 23. The taxi is available when . A. all the lights are on B. all the light are off C. the numbers are on with the “off duty" lights on D. the numbers are on with the “off duty" lights off B When it comes to your home, you should always pick a good spot. Spending more on a good location (位置)is far better than getting a cheap one in a bad area. Is it close to work? Is the neighborhood safe? Is it close to restaurants, grocery stores, shops, or banks? Do you feel like you belong in the neighborhood, or do you feel out of place? If you find an apartment or a house or an office you like that puts more hours of travel into your day, or prevents people from visiting you, you might as well find somewhere else. You should find the location that works best for you. Walk around in the neighborhood. Spend time there. When does the neighborhood wake up and when does it go to bed? What sort of people are living there and working there? Also, make sure to check it out on the weekends. Some neighborhoods are busy all week and then dead all weekend. What happens if you move into an apartment and realize that there's a nightclub across the street playing loud music every night? You'll either go crazy or move out, neither of which are good options. The view is important. I don't know anyone who wants to spend their life looking into a brick wall. If you have the choice, go for the view. But you have to be careful with a view, particularly if you're paying for it. The view today might look out over an empty area, but that could change in a month. In many Chinese cities, buildings seem to be going up at the rate of one per day, so make sure you have a good idea that the view there today will be there tomorrow. 24. As to buying a home, which of the following aspects does the first paragraph NOT cover? A. Distance. B. Safety. C. Shopping. D. Price. 25. What does the underlined word "dead” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. not alive B. not active C. crowded D. tired 26. Which may be a better choice if you want a good view? A. A house on the bank of a lake. B. A house behind a tall building. C. A house near an empty area. D. A house near banks. 27. The passage is likely to be taken from . A. a diary B. a magazine C. a novel D. a guidebook C Car companies predict (预测)that self-driving cars will save millions of lives. They talk about a future without personal car ownership, drivers* licenses, car insurance (保险)or the search for parking. When you need a ride, simply use an app to call an autonomous taxi. But not everyone is sold on the dream. In fact, 73 percent of respondents (回应者)told the American Automobile Association in a recent survey that they wouldn't want to ride in a self-driving car. They don't want to give up control to a machine. They don't trust it, don't think it's safe. After two years of waiting, I'm finally the proud owner of a Model 3, the latest and least expensive Tesla—and among the most autonomous (自动的)cars on the road. I've used its Enhanced Autopilot a lot. It's had some near misses and required some adjustments (调整),but I can now say whether it's really safer than my own driving. To be clear, no car is fully autonomous yet, meaning that you can't just enter a destination and then go to sleep. That's considered level 5 autonomy, the high end of the scale determined by the Society of Automotive Engineers. Today's smartest cars are mostly level 2, meaning that they can drive themselves on the highway. They stay in their lane (车道)automatically (自动地)and adjust their speed to traffic as necessary. But they can't turn onto new roads, read stop signs or traffic lights, or make lane decisions. For example, if you put on your turn signal, the Tesla watches for an opportunity, speed up if necessary and then smoothly changes lanes, all by itself. I am convinced that Autopilot makes me safer. It takes care of mechanical operations which make me nervous, leaving you to focus on large-level issues, like what is around you or what your next turn should be. By off-loading the second — by — second, fight — or — fight decisions, you are free to lessen your stress, making driving less fatiguing and more pleasant. Now, self-driving skeptics (怀疑论者)note that two people are reported to have died in Autopilot crashes. But software updates (更新)continuously improve these cars; Autopilot is already much safer than humans. If everyone used Autopilot, the company figures, we'd save 900, 000 lives a year worldwide. Operating a partly automated car really is a different kind of driving. It involves different muscles—mental and physical—and some adaption. If you resist (抵制)change, you may not ever want a self-driving car, and that's okay. But, if you are willing to try something new, I predict you'll enjoy driving more and crash less. 28. How did most people respond to(回应)the car company's prediction of self-driving cars? A. They are approving it. B. They are interested in it. C. They are not convinced of it. D. They are puzzled about it. 29. The message from Paragraph 3 to 5 shows that self driving cars . A. are far safer than all the other vehicles B. are not yet fully automatic and requires human help C. can make lane decisions on new roads D. can read traffic lights and stop signs on all the ways 30. What does the underlined word “fatiguing" most probably mean? A. exciting B. disappointing C. amazing D. tiring 31. What's the writer's attitude towards self-driving cars? A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Uncaring. D. Doubtful. D It was a March day in Manhattan, and Sarah was crying over her menu. Her job was working for Schmalenberg's Restaurant. This stood next to the house where she had a room. For this work Mr. Schmalenberg agreed to pay Sarah in food. After that, a waiter took three meals every day to Sarah's room with the new menu of the day for Sarah to type (打字). Now it was an afternoon in March-springtime! She was remembering her holiday last summer. Sarah stayed two weeks at Sunnybrook Farm. There she fell in love with Waiter. One day he made a crown of dandelion (蒲公英)flowers and put it on her head. "I'm going to marry you next spring," said Walter. And then Sarah came back to the big city and her work as a typist. Suddenly a knock on her room door made her forget those happy days. It was the waiter from Schulenberg’s with the new menu. She put a white card in the typewriter and began. She was waiting for a letter from Walter, and during the past two weeks no letter came. And now, on the menu that she was typing, she read "dandelions" and something about an egg. She remembered Walter making that dandelion crown for her, and saying that he wanted to marry her in the spring, and now-seeing those beautiful flowers as just something to eat on the menu-she felt terrible. At last she stopped crying. At six o'clock, the waiter took away the finished menus. After dinner, Sarah took a book and began to read. Just then, there was a ring at the front door. The landlady opened it. Sarah put down her book, and listened. Hearing a man's voice downstairs, she suddenly jumped up from her chair and ran out to the top of the stairs. There, running up the stairs towards her, was Walter. “I went to your old address, but they told me that you weren't living there. I didn't know where to find you.” "But I wrote to you with my new address." "I never got it." “So how did you find me?” The young farmer smiled. “I went to the restaurant next door for dinner, and looked at the menu. When I got to just below tomatoes, I called for Mr. Schulenberg. He told me where you lived." “I remember,", said Sarah, "Dandelions came just below tomatoes." “I knew that it was your typing, because of the strange way that your typewriter types the Ws higher than the other letters." "But there isn't a letter W in 'dandelion'!" cried Sarah in surprise. The young man took a menu from his pocket and gave it to her. There was a round mark from one of her tears. Sarah knew that it was the card she was typing when she began crying. And, there-Just below tomatoes-in place of dandelions, she read: “DEAREST WALTER, WITH AN EGG ON TOP.” 32. Why did Sarah cry? A. She felt anxious and hopeless. B. Life was hard to her. C. She was tired of typing. D. She didn't want to marry Walter. 33. What does dandelion mean to Sarah? A. Surprise and sadness. B. Love and promise. C. Flower and farm. D. Coldness and Manhattan. 34. How did Walter find Sarah again? A. He made friends with Mr. Schulenberg. B. He found the words typed by Sarah. C. He noticed a letter W in "dandelion”. D. He recognized a W made by her tears. 35. What may be the best title of the story? A. A round grey mark from tears B. Walter's arrival at last C. Schulenberg's restaurant D. Springtime on the menu 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。注意:选项中有 两项为多余选项。 How to Begin and End a Talk If you remember that simple rule, you should have no trouble having a talk. I'm social by nature, but a simple key for those who are shy is to be curious. 36 Most people are happy if you ask the right questions. After all, people love to hear themselves talk. 37 Seldom does a day go by in which I don't have five to ten conversations that improve the way I see the world. 38 Other ways are to stop talking, move away a bit, pretend you see someone you know across the room, or just say, "Enjoy your evening. Nice talking to you." You are talking to a family member or a relative, a distant relative who seldom talks to you, but he keeps asking your family, your sister, your brother.... And you don't really want to go into it. You can say they are fine, they are doing very well, thank you.... 39 I enjoy most conversations I join in, especially with friends. Since I usually have a lot of people to talk to, most people are thoughtful and careful and don't want to trap me. Those who trap me will get the message, and if they don't get the message, I just tell them I have to move on. No one enjoys being rude. 40 Or you'll spend your entire life trapped in meaningless conversations. A. Small talk can be one of the best ways to educate yourself. B. Keep your responses really short and clear. C. Remember, the goal is to open the door for more conversation. D. But sometimes you have to be. E. Ask questions that will make the other person talk. F. You can end a conversation quickly if you don't mind bein
