The Subway
It is a very safe way to travel. Stations and directions are clearly marked. One ride costs $2.25 and you pay your fare using a MetroCard, which can be bought in any subway station in the city using cash, credit or debit card. Plan your trip before you go and the subway can easily be the fastest and simplest way to get where you're going.
Buses

Taxis

When it comes to your home, you should always pick a good spot. Spending more on a good location （位置）is far better than getting a cheap one in a bad area. Is it close to work? Is the neighborhood safe? Is it close to restaurants, grocery stores, shops, or banks? Do you feel like you belong in the neighborhood, or do you feel out of place? If you find an apartment or a house or an office you like that puts more hours of travel into your day, or prevents people from visiting you, you might as well find somewhere else.
You should find the location that works best for you. Walk around in the neighborhood. Spend time there. When does the neighborhood wake up and when does it go to bed? What sort of people are living there and working there? Also, make sure to check it out on the weekends. Some neighborhoods are busy all week and then dead all weekend. What happens if you move into an apartment and realize that there's a nightclub across the street playing loud music every night? You'll either go crazy or move out, neither of which are good options.
The view is important. I don't know anyone who wants to spend their life looking into a brick wall. If you have the choice, go for the view. But you have to be careful with a view, particularly if you're paying for it. The view today might look out over an empty area, but that could change in a month. In many Chinese cities, buildings seem to be going up at the rate of one per day, so make sure you have a good idea that the view there today will be there tomorrow.

Car companies predict （预测）that self-driving cars will save millions of lives. They talk about a future without personal car ownership, drivers* licenses, car insurance （保险）or the search for parking. When you need a ride, simply use an app to call an autonomous taxi.
But not everyone is sold on the dream. In fact, 73 percent of respondents （回应者）told the American Automobile Association in a recent survey that they wouldn't want to ride in a self-driving car. They don't want to give up control to a machine. They don't trust it, don't think it's safe.
After two years of waiting, I'm finally the proud owner of a Model 3, the latest and least expensive Tesla—and among the most autonomous （自动的）cars on the road. I've used its Enhanced Autopilot a lot. It's had some near misses and required some adjustments （调整），but I can now say whether it's really safer than my own driving.
To be clear, no car is fully autonomous yet, meaning that you can't just enter a destination and then go to sleep. That's considered level 5 autonomy, the high end of the scale determined by the Society of Automotive Engineers.
Today's smartest cars are mostly level 2, meaning that they can drive themselves on the highway. They stay in their lane （车道）automatically （自动地）and adjust their speed to traffic as necessary. But they can't turn onto new roads, read stop signs or traffic lights, or make lane decisions. For example, if you put on your turn signal, the Tesla watches for an opportunity, speed up if necessary and then smoothly changes lanes, all by itself.
I am convinced that Autopilot makes me safer. It takes care of mechanical operations which make me nervous, leaving you to focus on large-level issues, like what is around you or what your next turn should be. By off-loading the second — by — second, fight — or — fight decisions, you are free to lessen your stress, making driving less fatiguing and more pleasant.
Now, self-driving skeptics （怀疑论者）note that two people are reported to have died in Autopilot crashes. But software updates （更新）continuously improve these cars; Autopilot is already much safer than humans. If everyone used Autopilot, the company figures, we'd save 900, 000 lives a year worldwide.
Operating a partly automated car really is a different kind of driving. It involves different muscles—mental and physical—and some adaption. If you resist （抵制）change, you may not ever want a self-driving car, and that's okay. But, if you are willing to try something new, I predict you'll enjoy driving more and crash less.

It was a March day in Manhattan, and Sarah was crying over her menu.
Her job was working for Schmalenberg's Restaurant. This stood next to the house where she had a room. For this work Mr. Schmalenberg agreed to pay Sarah in food.
After that, a waiter took three meals every day to Sarah's room with the new menu of the day for Sarah to type （打字）.
