Journalist and author Elizabeth Cline investigated this question and concluded that it‟s not as sustainable (可持续的) as it seems. Take shipping, for exam

Cline writes that consumer transportation has the second largest carbon footprint of our collective fashion habit after manufacturing (生产). She writes, “An item ordered online and then returned can send out 20 kilograms o

By comparison, the carbon impact of a pair of jeans purchased from a physical store and washed and worn at home is 33.4 kilograms, according to a 2015 study by Levi‟s.” Then there‟s the burden of washing, which has to happen for

30、 every item when it‟s returned, even though it was not worn. For most rental services, this usually means dry-cleaning, a high-impact and polluting process. To test the effect of social influence on eating habits, the researchers conducted two experiments. In the first, 95 undergraduate women were individually invited into a

An actor hired by the researchers grabbed her food first. In her natural state, the actor weighed 105 pounds. But in half the cases she wore a specially des

The participants followed suit, taking more food than they normally would have. However, they took significantly more when the actor was thin. For the second test, in o

The results were similar to the first test: the participants followed suit but took significantly more candy when the thin actor took 30 pieces. The tests show that the social environment is

42、 extremely influential when we‟re making decisions. If this fellow participant is going to eat more, so will I. Call it the “I‟ll have what she‟s having” effect.
