I. Analyze textbook
This is the first part of this unit. Therefore it provides the topic situation for the next parts.
This lesson is about a diary which is written in the simple past tense. It told an experience that happened to Paul. While his father and he were waiting for the ferry. Three young men stole a lady’s purse. AT first he thought his father was afraid of the bad men. But in the end he found out that his father called the police and the three young men were caught by the police. This article not only teaches students how and when to use the past tense, but also teaches students to be a brave man and dare to let justice prevail. So this lesson plays an important role.
This lesson also includes the following knowledge points. First, learn the simple past form of some verbs primarily. Second, learn the uses of some new words, such as “shout at, hold out, stare at”.
II. Analyze students’ situation
The students are in Grade Eight. So most students have grasped a large number of words. And they have formed their own way to learn English. But for a small amount of students, it not true. So during the teaching, I should notice this.
What’s more, Junior 8 students are still active and curious. The colorful pictures and situational teaching environment can still stimulate their enthusiasm. And at the same time they are also beginning to form logical thinking ability.
III Teaching objectives
1. Knowledge objectives
(1) Learn how to write a diary.
(2) Grasp the simple past tense of some verbs.
(3) Learn the uses of some new words and phrases, such as hold out, stare at, be in handcuffs etc.

(1) Can state a story in simple past tense
(2) Cultivate students’ ability to do some extensive reading
3. Emotions objectives
Educate students to be helpful to others and dare to let justice prevail.
IV. Teaching difficulties and teaching points
1.Teaching difficulties
(1) The past form of the verbs in this lesson, because this is the first time for students to contact the past tense, and there’s no past tense in Chinese. So it’s not easy for students to understand it.
(2) Learn how to do some extensive reading, because it’s the basic ability to learn English. It’s very useful in their future study.
2.Teaching points
(1) The uses of words and phrases, because they’re the accumulation of knowledge.
(2) Learn to write a diary, it’s very useful basic skill to use English.

VI. Teaching methods and learning methods.
1. Teaching methods
1) Communicative teaching method, it’s mainly embodied by “Situational teaching method”, “talking method”, “acting method”. By doing like this, it’s easy to create English learning environment .It can cultivate students’ ability to use English to understand things, express their ideas and thoughts.
(2) Task-based method, this can provide clear goals for students to finish.
(3) Audio-visual teaching method, this can make the contents more intuitively.
(4) Practice method, because I believe “practice makes perfect”.
2. Learning methods
I instruct students to use “Analyze and summarize” method to improve their “self –learning ability. let students use “finding method” to improve their observational ability. What’s more, I teach students to grasp reading skills, such as “doing fast reading”, ”doing scanning reading” and “doing skipping reading”.
3. The way to organize and handle the textbook
First, I’ll show a diary book and ask, “What will you do if you meet the bad men?” This will arouse students’ interest. I think this is the hot topic currently. Students can be interested in it. After their answering, I’ll lead to the topic of this lesson by saying “Today we’ll learn how Paul and his father did Paul has written it in a diary.” Then I will let students guess what the diary is about by looking at the title, pictures and the first and the last paragraph. Next I’ll instruct students to guess the new words by contents and pictures. Then I’ll lead students’ to do some extensive reading about this passage.
To face all the students, I’ll divide the whole class into groups. The more able students can help the less able students. And they can bear different tasks due to their abilities. This can also cultivate their co-operative spirit.
