Step 1 Greeting and lead-in

Step 2 Revision
Check the preview exercises by translating the following phrases or sentences patterns into Chinese.

Step 3 Pre-writing
1. Read through what to write with students and make sure they understand what they have to do.

2.Help students to review some phrases and sentences patterns about population, climate, industry, location, tourism, transport.
3. Help students to learn some strategies in writing comparisons.
对比类写作的常用类型:
(1)今昔对比:文章通常用一般现在时和一般过去时。
写作格式:主题句——对过去情况的描述——对现在情况的描述——总结句。
(2)正反观点对比:文章通常采用同一种时态。
写作格式:提出问题——介绍两种不同的观点——对两种不同观点的论据逐项进行对比——结尾加上自己的观点并阐明理由。
(3)数据分析对比:文章通常用一般现在时和一般过去时。
写作格式:提出所要说明的现象——数据对比——得出结论。

Step 4 While-writing
Task: Write a description comparing two places you know well.
1.Think of two places and one of them could be your hometown.
2.Write notes about some of these features.

4. Give students 15 minutes and have them finish the composition individually.

Step 5 Post-writing
1.Check your own passage carefully and pay attention to the grammar, spelling and punctuation of your writing.
2. When they have finished, ask them to exchange their writing with a partner for peer-checking of all aspects of the writing: structure, language, content. . .
3.Share your writing with us.
Step 6 Summary
In this period we first learned some new words in describing places and then you practiced using the words to describe places. Finally we did some writing. Through the writing section students would surely know how to compare two cities.
