wide, it has roof sections weighing up to 15 tons and over a million tiles on its extraordinary roof.
It was completed ten years behind schedule on account of the budget blowout —— it exceeded (超出) its
projected budget by over fourteen times.
Sydney Harbour Bridge's Nickname

The Coat Hanger” is the nickname for the landmark famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. It officially opened in
March 1932, when many events were held to celebrate the completion of the bridge. Standing 134 metres above the
world's deepest natural harbour, it is the largest —— but not longest —— steel arch bridge you can climb to enjoy

Jo Land, a 53-year-old teacher, was shocked when she realised how much her youngest son’s school uniform
was going to cost. She said, “My husband and I are professionals, so we are not or the breadline. If it's hard for us,

Land has also helped children living in social care and women's shelters. She estimates that she spends at least

It's a debatable composition in countless foods as well as beauty products, but what is the problem with palm
oil(棕榈油) and can it be avoided? Despite being so commonly seen and highly demanded, palm oil is facing
increasing rejection from environmentalists.
As a vegetable oil made from palm trees, palm oil has long been considered a healthy oil. In spite of its higher
price than others, time has seen its number grow rapidly and seen rainforests swept away in order to grow palm
trees. It is estimated that an area equal to 300 football fields of rainforest is gone each hour to plant the palm trees.
The destruction of rainforest brings about a series of horrible consequences. Greenhouse gases are produced
when clearing forests. The lack of forest then also results in less carbon dioxide being removed from the atmosphere,
making the practice doubly problematic. People and animals native to the forest are also displaced and many animals
will not survive outside of their natural habitat. Worse still, plantation workers in Indonesia consider orangutans(红
毛猩猩) a harm and as many as 1,500 orangutans are killed in a single year.
Having seen the first-hand effects of palm oil production, some environmentalists felt an urge to find
substitutes(替代品). They tend to use products with no palm oil. However, some people still argue that palm oil is
necessary as it has substantial production. They don't seem to understand that no crop can yield (产出) enough to
justify such widespread deforestation and species wipe-out. Crops with lower production planted in less ecologically
sensitive regions would be far more preferable.
As the global demand for palm oil is increasing, more rainforests will be wiped out. There's no doubt that

substitutes to palm oil are a necessary part of the sustainability issue.

We already harvested energy from nature, like solar power and wind energy. But these green forms of power
generation have limitations. The plants of power generation take up lots of space on land and are limited by the
availability of light and wind. For example, solar farms don't collect energy at night and gather less of it in winter
and on cloudy days. At present, scientists have found one approach to addressing it.
The idea of space-based solar power(SBSP) —— using satellites to collect energy from the sun and “beam”
it to collection points on Earth —— has been around since the late 1960s. Despite its huge potential, the concept
has not gained sufficient concern due to cost and technological challenges.
To be specific, SBSP enables us to acquire energy in orbit, which won't be limited by the onset of night. A
satellite in geostationary orbit(地球同步轨道) is exposed to the sun for more than 99% of the time during a whole
year. This allows it to produce green energy without a break. Besides, the ground station needed is smaller than the
areas of land needed to produce the same amount of power using solar or wind energy. One study conducted by the
European Space Agency found that SBSP could generate up to 10 GW of electricity by2050, one-quarter of the
UK's current demand. 15 other countries have recently announced the intention to beam power to Earth by 2025,
moving to larger systems within the next two decades.
While an SBSP mission seems promising, Rand Maclain, head of the European Energy Agency think
otherwise. He mentioned that while the electricity produced is fully green, the massive impact of the pollution from
hundreds of launches is difficult to predict. Additionally, controlling such facilities in space will require substantial
amounts of fuel. Servicing and refueling could also be extremely demanding.
