Years ago, if a teenager had some problems in her life, she might go home and write in her diary. Now, a teenager with 21 problems might go onto the Internet and write about them in a blog(博客). In many ways, a diary and a blog are very 22 . So, what 23 blogging different from writing in a traditional diary?
The biggest difference is that blogging is much more 24 than a diary. Usually, a teenager treats her diary like a book full of 25 that she does not want to 26 .
It's interesting that someone who writes in a blog 27 a diary will probably write nearly the same information.
I have a little sister, and sometimes I go online to read her 28 . She writes about things like waking up early for swimming practice and not studying enough for her chemistry test. 29 I was her age, I wrote about the same things, but 30 in my diary. Then, after I had finished writing, I would hide my diary in a secret place because I was 31 that my sister might read it!
The biggest 32 with blogging is that anyone can read what you write. If I was 33 with a friend during high school and wrote something mean about her in my diary, she would never know. 34 , if my sister ever wrote something bad about a friend, that friend 35 read her blog and get angry.
There are also 36 to blogging, of course. If I was feeling sad one day and wrote in my diary “Nobody cares about me”, 37 would know about it. However, if my sister wrote the same sentence in her blog, her best friends would 38 respond (回应) and tell her how much they 39 her. Blogs help people 40 in contact with their friends and to hear what the people around them are doing.

Long bus rides are like television shows. They have a beginning, a middle, and an end with commercials (商业广告)thrown in every three or four minutes. The commercials are unavoidable. They happen whether you want them or not. Every couple of minutes a billboard glides by outside the bus window. "Buy Super Clean Toothpaste." "Drink Good Wet Root Beer." "Fill up with Pacific Gas." Only if you sleep, which is equal to turning the television set off, are you spared the unending cry of "You Need It! Buy It Now!".
The beginning of the ride is comfortable and somewhat exciting, even if you’ve traveled that way before. Usually some things have changed, new houses, new buildings, sometimes even a new road. The bus driver has a style of driving and it’s interesting to try to figure it out in the first hour or so. If the driver is particularly reckless(鲁莽的)or daring, the ride can be as thrilling(惊心动魄的)as a suspense(悬疑) story. Will the driver pass the truck in time? Will the driver move into the right-hand or the left-hand lane? After a while, of course, the excitement dies down. Sleeping for a while helps pass the middle hours of the ride. Food always makes bus rides more interesting. But you’ve got to be careful of what kind of food you eat. Too much salty food can make you very thirsty between stops.
The end of the ride is somewhat like the beginning. You know it will soon be over and there’s a kind of expectation and excitement in that. The seat of course, has become harder as the hours have passed. By now you’ve sat with your legs crossed, with your hands in your lap, with your hands on the armrests or even with your hands crossed behind your head. The end comes just as no more ways to sit.
46. According to the passage, what do the passengers usually see when they are on a long bus trip?
A. Buses on the road. B. Things on television.
C. Advertisements on the billboards. D. Salesmen.
47. The writer of this passage would probably prefer _______.
A. bus drivers who aren’t reckless B. driving alone
C. a television set on the bus D. no billboards along the road
48. The writer feels long bus rides are like TV shows because _______.
A. the commercials both on TV shows and on billboards along the road are interesting
B. they both have a beginning, a middle, and an end, with commercials in between
C. the drivers are always reckless on TV shows just as they are on buses
D. both traveling and watching TV are not exciting.
49. The writer thinks that the end of the ride is somewhat like the beginning because both are _______.
A. exciting B. comfortable C. tiring D. boring

A. To give the writer’s opinion about long bus journeys.
B. To try to advise you to take a long bus journey.
C. To explain how bus trips and television shows differ.
D. To describe the billboards along the road.
B) 阅读下面短文,根据第51至第55小题的具体要求,简要回答问题。
The north magnetic pole(磁极)is no longer a “resident” of Canada. It has moved across the Canadian Arctic and is now angling toward Siberia.
The north magnetic pole (where the Earth’s magnetic field is directed downward) is moving westward because of natural changes in the Earth’s magnetic field, a process that originates(源自) about 3, 000 kilometers below our feet, in the outer core (核心) of the planet. But scientists are now noticing that the magnetic pole has speed up its pace (步伐).
“Over the past century, the pole has been moving at an average speed of about 10 kilometers per year,” says Larry Newitt, head of Geomagnetic Research Center at Natural Resources Canada in Ottawa.Since the 1970s, this speed has increased to about 50 kilometers per year.
“Scientists are wondering why the speed is increasing,” says Newitt. One Hypothesis (假说) is connected with magnetic sudden jumps in the rate of change of the magnetic field. There have been three jumps in the past four decades, each one leading to an increase in speed. If the north magnetic pole continues at its present rate, it could reach Siberia by 2056.
“For most of recorded history, the pole has been a part of Canada, and now it’s not,” says Newitt. “It may be a shock to our mind, but other than that, it doesn’t have a great effect on most people’s existence.”
