There is not enough oil in the world now. As time goes by, it becomes less and less, so what are we going to do when it turns out? Perhaps we will go back to using horses, carriages and bicycles.
In the Second World War, some people didn’t use gas made from petroleum(石油) in their cars. They made gas from wood and plants instead. the car didn’t go fast, but they ran, so this was better than nothing. However, in the future, we can’t cut down all out trees to make gas; we need our trees for other things, too.
Besides different types of gas, we can also use electricity to run our cars, but first we must make the electricity! Some countries have coal and they make electricity with that, but we might not always have coal, either. Other countries have big, strong rivers, and they can use the power of water to turn turbines and make electricity more easily and cheaply.
We are also able to get power from the ocean tides. We put turbines into the mouth of the river. Then the tide comes in, the water turns the turbines and then it goes out, it turns them again.
Which of these ways will be used to run our cars in the future?
21. When might people have to go back to using horses and carriages?
A. When they are poor B. When they run out of oil

An earthquake is a trembling or shaking of the ground caused by the sudden release(释放) of energy stored in the rocks below the surface. Generally, earthquakes last only seconds. Strong ground shaking during a medium(中等的) to large earthquake generally lasts about 10 to 30 seconds. Aftershocks(余震) can occur once in a while for weeks or even months.
Many people think that there is an “earthquake season” or a kind of “ earthquake weather ”.As a matter of fact, there isn’t. Earthquakes can occur at any time of the year and at time of day or night. Earthquakes occur under all weather conditions-sunny, wet. or cold without any special weather tendency(倾向).
Also, you don’t need to worry that the ground will open up and swallow people when earthquakes occur. Open ground cracks may form during an earthquake, for example, to land sliding or ground falling. However, such cracks tend to be open gaps (they don’t “ swallow”) that a person could stand in afterwards.
The safest place in an earthquake is an open field because buildings and falling objects can injure or kill you. If you are indoors, when you feel the ground start to shake, take cover immediately under a table or strong piece of furniture, placing something between falling objects and yourself. Don’t “ attempt to use the stairs or an elevator to get out of the building..
25. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?.
A. Earthquakes usually last 10 to 30 seconds.
B. After a big earthquake, there are many more quakes.

26. The reason why there isn’t “earthquake weather” is that._________.
A. an earthquake only lasts seconds and doesn’t happen frequently.
B. an earthquake can happen at any time and in any kind of weather.
C. when an earthquake happens is related to the weather
D. earthquakes don’t change with the seasons
27. The underlined word “swallow” in Paragraph3 probably means“________”?
A. Take sb/sth in. B. make sb frightened.
C. make room for sb to stand in. D.make the ground slide.
28. During an earthquake, which of the following things should you NOT do?
A. Find an open filed and stay there. B. Stay away from buildings.

“I don’t like my parents. They always tell me I should do this, and should not do that. It sometimes makes me angry,” said Li Ping, a middle school student in Hunan. Do you have the same problem? Perhaps your parents had the same problem when they were your age long ago. Why does it seem that some parents are not so friendly in their children’s eyes?
One of the biggest things is when someone becomes a parent, he / she likes worrying things. They worry about everything about you, from the time you were born. They do a lot for you, though something would make you angry, because they care about you and worry about you. They worry about your choice of friends, the food you eat, your work at school, how much sleep you get, etc. All these things are part of your life. They want you to grow up healthily and happily.
So how can you make things easier on yourself? It’s easier than you think. Just make sure your parents know what you’re doing. Get them to know your friends. Phone if you stay somewhere else so that your parents don’t call every hospital in the phone book looking for your body. Say sorry to them when you make mistakes. Take responsibility (责任) for what you have done. Talk about your ideas with them. They may talk about theirs with you.
Most of all, try to think about why your parents do this or do that. They are still practicing being parents and need help you can give them. Someday, when you become a parent, they may be able to help you know how to get on with your children.
