Unit 4 Finding your way
Reading(Ⅰ)
教学目标:
能根据地图识路,掌握方位的基本表达方法。
能了解动物园常见动物的名称及基本习性。
能为别人指路,能对他人指引的路线作出正确的反应。
教学步骤:
Step Ⅰ Free talk
Where’s the…? Do you know the way to the…?
Where’s the…? Is it far from our school? How do you get there?
Show some maps, ask and answer questions.
Step ⅡPresentation
We are going to visit Sunshine Zoo today, what can we see in the zoo?
Show a picture of pandas and say: Look, what are they? Pandas. They’re very cute. Where do pandas live in the zoo? What do they like to eat? (They live in the panda house, and they like to eat bamboo.)
Show a picture of monkeys and ask: Do you like monkeys? Why? (funny/jump around/make people laugh)
Do pandas like to jump like monkeys do? No, they like to lie down all day long. (lie down/ all day long)
Show a picture of lions and say: Monkeys and pandas are very lovely. We all like them. How about lions? Lions are the kings of animal world. They are very dangerous. Don’t go near them. ( king/dangerous…)
Introduce other new words.
Ask students: Which animal do you like best? Why?
Step Ⅲ Practice
Work in pairs, make a conversation like this:
S1: Which animal do you like?
S2: I like pandas.
S1: Why?
S2: Because pandas are very cute.
Part B2 Millie is making some notes about the animals in the zoo. Help her fill in each blank with the correct answer.
Step Ⅳ Presentation
Today, the students are in Sunshine Zoo. They’re seeing many different kinds of animals. Do you know what kinds of animals they are? Listen to the tape and try to find the answers.
Read the passage, then work in groups of four. Let’s complete Part B1. Read the introduce carefully. Try to find each animal’s location in the zoo.
Which animal do you like best in the zoo? Tell us where they are.
Eg. I like monkeys best. The monkeys are north of the World of Birds.
Part B2 “true or false”. If it is false, can you point mistakes? How can we correct them?
Step Ⅴ Games
Game1: Now imagine that our classroom is a zoo. There are different sections for different animals. Please work in groups of four. One of the group members will be the guide. He or she should show the three visitors the way to the different animals. The other three students will ask the way to the sections for their favourite animals.
Game2: Look at the map. Show the way to other people with this map. Please work in pairs.

Here are some sentences about animals. I’ll give the sentence to different students. They’ll read the sentence out. The other students will guess which animal it is.
Or: Here are names of animals. I’ll give them to groups of four. One student will read out the name, the other three students will say something about the animal.
Wendy is Millie’s online friend. They’re talking about Sunshine Zoo. Please complete the information in Part B4.
Read and act out the conversation.

How to give directions:
Eg: Go straight on, and you will find the Panda House.
Walk along the road. To the north of the Panda House, you will find lions.
Turn left, and to the west of the Lions’ Area, you’ll find the World of Birds.
North-east of the giraffes there is a bridge.
Cross the bridge, and you will see the elephants.
