Step 1　Lead in
Show some photos about an earthquake and have a short conversation with students.
(详见素材一导入二)
Step 2　Pre­reading
1．Ask the students to discuss the four photos in Activity 1 first, and then show the photos with some words by PPT. Ask the students to discuss them again.
2．After the discussion, let the students think about two questions: How do you feel about earthquakes？/Do you think it's important to know what to do in an earthquake? Why?

Step 3　Reading
1．Learn the new words by PPT.
2．Play the tape in Activity 3 twice and ask the students to listen and read.
3．Ask the students to finish the exercises in Activity 4.
(详见素材三突破一)
4．Have the students complete the mind map to grasp the main idea of the passage. (详见素材三突破二)
Step 4　Practice
1．Play the tape in Activity 3 and let the students read after it.
2．Ask the students to read the questions in Activity 5 and answer them.

(1)It's difficult to warn people about earthquakes.
(2)We should stay inside.
(3)We should keep calm and be brave.
(4)We shouldn't stand near street lights or under power lines.
3．Choose two students whose spoken English is good to show others the dialogue.
4.If possible, let the students make new sentences with the words and expressions in the box.

Step 5　Writing
1．Tell the students to read the items in Activity 6 first, then write some instructions about what to do in an earthquake. The teacher can give help when necessary.
One possible version：
★ Go out and meet on the playground.
★ Do not use the lift.
★ Stay away from windows and heavy furniture. Hide under a table.
★ Leave the building quickly when it's safe.
★ Don't stand near street lights or under power lines.
2．Ask the students to practise writing a similar passage.

3．Earthquakes alway happen suddenly, so it is difficult to warn people about them.
