On Chinese Workers’Paid Holiday
In 2007, the Chinese government released a draft that all employees of government organs, civil organizations, enterprises, and public-service institutions are entitled to take paid vacation after serving the same employer for one year. Some have sufficient faith that the paid holidays will improve the current tourism pattern. The new holiday scheme will give people more choices to make their holiday plans and thus it will greatly alleviate the pressure of transportation departments, security bodies, shopping malls, ect. during the current holiday boom.
Other people wonder if the new system will be available. It is likely to be a dream to have a paid holiday. Because the problem is that many people don’t dare to take long vacations. Competition is fierce. Nobody can afford a long holiday and leave the boss with an impression of not working as hard as others.
For me, I think it is necessary for, in future, the state to issue a regulation concerning Chinese workers-paid holidays. We should strengthen the employers’ sense of the paid holidays. If they did so voluntarily, it will attract and retain employees. With these measures, it is expected that more employees in China are entitled to receive holiday pay for time off.

Online Games
As a product of modern computer and the Internet, online games have become very popular among college students. Many students have enjoyed great pleasure and satisfaction from these games. But as we see, some students lacking self-discipline are too much indulged in these games so that their health and academic performances are affected. This phenomenon has caused much worry from the teachers and parents.
However, some others argue that online games are not always harmful. They can train the ability of youngsters to respond to things quickly. Moreover, they can stimulate their imagination and their interest in computer science. More importantly, it does bring college students much pleasure and release their pressure greatly.
From my point of view, online games are a wonderful entertainment if you play them in a clever way. When they interfere too much with your study, it is better for you to give them up at once. But if you have enough self-control over them, you can certainly obtain real pleasure and benefit a lot from them.

Skipping Classes on College Campus
In colleges and universities, the phenomenon of students’ skipping classes is not unusual. There are often some students who skip those classes for feeling unwell or other private reasons. Besides, still some students don’t go to class without any reason.
There are two main reasons for college students’ skipping classes. First, compared with in middle school, students have more freedom in college. It depends more on one student’s consciousness whether he will attend the class. So those students lacking self-discipline begin to skip classes. Second, some teachers’ lectures could not attract students’ interests so that some students would rather skip classes to study what they are interested in.
For whatever reasons, skipping classes does bring negative effects on students’ study. Therefore, it is necessary to take some effective measures to reduce this phenomenon. On the one hand, the school and teachers should make students realize the negative effects of skipping classes and enhance their consciousness of attending the class. On the other hand, teachers have to improve their teaching quality to attract students’ interests in the courses. Only in this way can the phenomenon of skipping classes be reduced as soon as possible.
6、就业:
Directions: For this part you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Jobs for Graduates. You should write at least 120 words and base your composition on the outline below:
1、大学生难找工作,
2、原因很多,
3、解决的办法。
Job hunting has always been a headache for college students. Though many graduates are employed right after graduation, some are not. Most serious of all, some still have no idea where to go working even a long time after graduation.
The reasons for this phenomenon are various. On the one hand, a few years ago colleges and universities enrolled so many students in popular majors, such as economy, finance and so on that the number of graduates was greater than the need in the market. On the other hand, most graduates would rather stay in large cities without suitable job to do than go to the country.
I reckon this problem can be solved if both colleges and students take measures. First, they should research the market and develop special skills to suit its need. Second, students’ attitude towards employment should be changed. They should go to small cities and country. There they can also give full play to their professional knowledge. In a word, if we pay much attention, the situation can be improved.

The Real-name Train Ticket Purchase System Launched

The Real-name Train Ticket Purchase System Launched
With the largest population in the world and an underdeveloped railway system, China is notorious for making train tickets particularly hard to purchase for ordinary citizens, especially during the Spring Festival when the railway is the primary means of transportation. As a result, ticket scalpers have proliferated, monopolizing a large quantity of tickets by either hiring people to buy tickets or conspiring with the ticket sellers within the railway stations.
As the entire nation’s outrage over ticket scarcity keeps mounting, the Chinese government has introduced the drastic measure that citizens purchase train tickets with valid personal IDs. The system is designed primarily to crack down on ticket scalpers whose business has developed into a major industry. By allowing each individual to buy only one ticket, the system seeks to make tickets accessible to people in real need, rather than controlled by a small number of profit-seeking and illegal scalpers.
However, this reformatory measure, while somewhat easing ticket scarcity, creates new problems. Buyers find the whole buying process troublesome and time-consuming. When boarding the train, the passenger who forgets to bring his valid ID certificate will be denied access to the train. I believe the introduction of each new system is coupled with shortcomings and there must be ways to improve the system as it is enforced. Of course, we look forward to the day when China’s railway networks are so sufficiently developed that tickets are readily available to anyone at any time.
7、考试:
Directions: For this part you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic My Views on Examinations. You should write at least 120 words and base your composition on the outline below:
1、大学都用考试来衡量学生的成绩,
2、考生可能带来的副作用,
3、我对考试的看法。
In most colleges and universities the examination is used as a chief means of deciding whether a student succeeds or fails in mastering a particular subject. Although it does the job quite efficiently, its side effects are also enormous.
To begin with, examinations lower the standards of teaching. Since teachers are often judged by examination results, they are reduced to training their students in exam techniques. No subjects can be taught successfully merely through being approached with intent to take examinations. In addition, the most undesirable effect is that examinations encourage bad study habits. As the examination score is the only criterion for his academic performance, a student is driven to memorize mechanically rather than to think creatively.
In fact, few of us admit that examinations can contribute anything really important to the students’ academic development. If that is the case, why cannot we make a change and devise something more efficient and reliable than examinations?

Social Practice of College Students
Nowadays many universities encourage and organize students to take part in social practice activities. During the holidays, more and more students choose to be the volunteers, take part-time jobs, or take part in other practical activities alike. It’s obvious that social practice is playing a more and more important role in China’s college education.
Undoubtedly, college students have benefited a lot from social practice. Above all, they are provided with more opportunities to contact the real world outside the campus. Moreover, in social practice activities, students can apply their knowledge to the solution to the practical problems. So their practical skills are improved greatly. Besides, social practice helps strengthen students’ sense of social responsibility.
Considering the above-mentioned, I think, it is necessary for college students to participate in social practice. However, social practice may bring some problems. For example, some students spend too much time in taking part-time jobs so as to ignore their study. Therefore, we should try to balance the relationship between social practice and study.

A Witness of a Theft Incident
Yesterday, I witnessed a theft incident on my way home. The thief was so rampant that it left me a very deep impression.
It was in the rush hour, when many people were buying tickets at the subway station. A woman took her purse out and paid for the ticket. Then she put her purse back into her bag and turned to leave, when a mid-aged man brushed past her muttering “Excuse me”. She didn’t feel unusual and went into the station. Indeed, her purse had been stolen by that man. To our surprise, the thief seems not to be nervous at all and even began to look others up and down. Maybe he was searching for the next target. At that time some persons, including me, witnessed the process. But unfortunately, no one dared to warn that woman.
This incident makes me ashamed and leaves me a deep thought. The pickpocket has posed a great threat to residents’ and visitors’ property safety. Undoubtedly, it is an urgent thing to take action to prevent pickpocket. However, it cannot depend on the police only. Instead, it needs our common efforts. We can not shut our eyes and mouths to the pickpocket any more. It should be kept in our minds that our forces are far beyond those thieves.
