Bridges are one of the best constructional inventions. You may be surprised to see that some old bridges are still standing and used by tourists. Some of the more modern bridges, on the other hand, reach breathtaking heights and are not for the faint of heart (胆小鬼).
The Bridge of Immortals (China)

The drop below is pretty dramatic and if you decide to cross, we only have a piece of advice to offer you crazy adventurers... Don’t look down!
Hussaini Hanging Bridge (Pakistan)
Hussaini Hanging Bridge is considered to be the most dangerous bridge in the world. This rope bridge is poorly maintained and shakes wildly when you walk across it. If you take a wrong step, you’ll end up flying into the Hunza River below.
Langkawi Sky Bridge (Malaysia)
This curious looking bridge in Malaysia is 400 feet above the ground and has been closed several times for maintenance purposes. Its reopening was delayed several times but it is now open for use, although not many people actually want to cross. There was a rumor (传闻) claiming that the bridge can potentially collapse.
Seven Mile Bridge (Florida)
The Seven Mile Bridge can be found in the Florida Keys and connects the Middle Keys to Little Duck Key in the Lower Keys. When it was constructed, it was one of the longest bridges in the world. It won 8 awards and one of these was the Exceptional Award for Cost Savings Innovation from the Federal Highway Administration.

An American teacher who helped make college education accessible to low-income, immigrant, first-generation American, and refugee (难民) pupils has won the $1 million Global Teacher Prize. Keishia Thorpe, an English teacher in Maryland, was selected from more than 8,000 teachers in 121 countries.
Ms. Thorpe teaches English to 12th-graders at the International High School Langley Park, where 95 percent of pupils are from low-income families. She redesigned their courses for the English department to make it culturally relevant to her pupils who are from mostly Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and South America. Since then, her English language learners have shown a 40 percent increase in their reading.
Ms. Thorpe spent a lot of time encouraging her pupils to apply for college and helped them with their applications and accessing fully-funded scholarships. She helped her senior pupils in 2018–2019 win more than $6.7 million in scholarships to 11 colleges, with most of them not having to pay for their education.
She plans to use the prize money to give less well-off pupils an opportunity of receiving a third level education. “Every person deserves the right to education and I want to be that person who champions that for them. I plan to use the money to help students worldwide access higher education,” she said. “Students are the reason I’m here, so I plan to use that to promote them and create a better future for them.”
Organized by UNESCO and first awarded in 2015, the Global Teacher Prize is an annual award to a teacher who has made a vast difference to the profession. The winner of this year was announced at a virtual ceremony in Paris on November 10th, 2021.

Two hundred years ago, the clock began to control the world of work. Paid on the basis of how many hours they worked, people rushed to and from work.
The clock’s power may at last be weakening. Flexible working existed well before the pandemic?(疫情). Now remote working has brought a greater degree of freedom. A survey of 4,700 home-workers across six countries conducted by Slack, a corporate-messaging firm, found that flexible working was viewed very positively, improving both people’s worksite balance and productivity. Flexible workers even scored more highly on a sense of belonging to their organization than those on a nine-to-five schedule.
It is hardly surprising that workers prefer flexibility. Working an eight-hour schedule is restricting. Those are also the hours when most shops are open, and when doctors will take appointments. Parents on a conventional routine may be able to take their children to school in the morning but are unlikely to be able to pick them up in the afternoon.
It is also not astonishing that home-workers feel they are more productive. After all, few people can concentrate for eight hours on end. There are points in the day where people feel like staring out of the window or going for a walk; these may be moments when they find inspiration or recharge themselves for the next task. When they do this in an office, they risk the boss’s disapproval; at home, they can work when they are most motivated.
What is striking about Slack’s study is the widespread support for home-working. Overall Just 12% of the workers surveyed wanted to return to a normal office schedule. In America black, Asian and Hispanic employees were even more enthusiastic than their white colleagues. Women with children were generally happy about it, reporting an improvement in their work-life balance.
Of course, the new schedule carries dangers: people may lose all separation between work and home life. To maintain some human contact, companies may adopt a mixed model in which workers go into the office for part of the week. But overall office-workers’ freedom is to be welcomed. The clock was a crud master and many people will be happy to escape its control.
28.What is the benefit of remote working according to the text?
A.Workers can spare more time to work.
B.Workers can balance work and life well.
C.Workers can earn more money by working at home.
D.Workers can take more jobs to increase their income.
29.Which proverb can be quoted to support Para 4?
A.there is a will, there is away.
B.God helps those who help themselves.
C.All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.
D.Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.
30.Which is impressive about Slack’s study on flexible working?
A.Workers’ preference for office-working.
B.Workers’ widespread favor of flexible working.
C.Workers’ great worry about flexible working.
D.Workers’ productivity increased by home-working.
31.What advice is given to companies interested in taking the new schedule?
A.To fix a time for their employees to work in the office.
B.To give their employees as much freedom as they need.
C.To require their employees to separate work from home life.
D.To praise their employees for being punctual for their work.

As children we are well-trained to find the right answer. We are rewarded for A's, the honor roll and acing the test. Our education trains us to follow the rules and deliver the expected answers. When we do, awards and congratulations follow. Yet when we grow up, it gets a little harder. Life and careers don’t have tests with an A if we get the “right” answer.
I recently had coffee with a college student who will graduate. She is struggling with what she wants for her career. She wants her parents to be proud of her and to continue the success she has had in school. She also talked about other students in her graduating class who are set to do "some big things," like working for impressive companies. Yet she wasn't sure of the right answer for using her degree. She said that deep down she was hoping that someone might give her the answer.
We both agreed that it comes down to not looking for the right answer, but her answer. The grown-up definition of the “right answer" is different than that in school. What would you do if you weren't afraid? It takes time to know these answers. And they can change over time and at any point in your career. My encouragement is to get valued advice and input, of course, but finally to look within yourself for the answers. It helps to come back to:
What do I want to be known for? What is my definition of success? What am I best at?
If I had no fears, what would I do?
What is one step I can take today to move me toward my goal (even if it's not perfectly clear)?
I find these types of questions are more helpful at getting to our unique answer rather than “right answer” questions, such as: What will my parents want? What degree or job will mark me as accomplished to the world? What is my best option based on where I work today?
32.What does the author mean to say in the first paragraph?
A.Life is harder for adults than children.
B.Academic excellence is not necessary.
C.It is not helpful to follow the rules in school.
D.Rules in life are different from those in school.
33.What is wrong with the college student?
A.She does badly in her studies.
B.Her parents are not proud of her.
C.She feels puzzled about her life career.
D.She is not sure whether to do" some big things".
34.When looking for the answer in life, you need to .
A.trust your parents
B.listen to your heart
C.follow valued advice
D.learn from your classmates
35.Which of the following questions might not help you to seek your answer?
A.What do I love to do?
B.What matters most to me in life?
C.What will make me look successful?
D.What will I regret not doing when I'm 80?

____38____ Besides, he tried to raise public awareness about the urgent need to protect them from the poachers (偷猎者). He adopted all kinds of methods, such as posting hundreds of articles he wrote on social websites, sharing photos he took of elephants and writing children’s storybooks featuring elephants.
Sun is a witness to the story told in his book Samburu, I ‘m Back. He was, at the time, in Kenya working for Save the Elephants, a UK- registered charity based in Nairobi.
