UNIT 7 What does he look like? 桃源县漳江中学 .黄 瑛 Knowledge and skills :Learn some words about people’s build ,height and hair. Learn to talk about and describe what people look like. Learn some adjectives of general description. Processes and methods: With the studying strategies of Guessing and Sequencing, get the students to do pair work to talk about people’s physical appearance by looking at the teaching courseware, pictures. Get the students to learn to describe people’s appearance and practice listening and speaking by working in pairs. Emotion, attitudes and value: Help students learn to appreciate others and know that: ‘A kind heart is much more than a good looking’. Learn to talk about and describe what people look like. Teaching important points :How to listen to descriptions about peoples looks and talk about them. Teaching difficult points: The difference between is and has. Teaching procedures and ways: Step 1:Warming up Go over what they learned in the last unit. What is the weather like today? / How is the weather? How is it going? Step 2 :Presentation 1. Teach hair Show the students four pictures and teach short / long /straight /curly hair. Teach the new dialog: What does he /she look like? He/She has short /long /straight /curly hair. 2 Teach height. Show the students three pictures and teach tall / short / of medium height. Help the students to say : What does he look like ?He is tall / short /of medium height. Practice the dialog with Jack Bush, George Bush and David Bush 3. Teach build. Show the students three pictures and teach thin / heavy /of medium build. Practice this dialog :What does he / she look like ? H e / She is thin /heavy /of medium build. Further Practice with Jack Bush, George Bush and David Bush . Step 3: Memory Challenge Show the students some pictures , review what they have learned just now. Step4. Practice 1 .What does Yao Ming look like? He is tall. He has short hair. He is of medium build. 2 .Practice with Pan Changjiang , Han Hong and Jackie Chan . Step 5. Match ( 1a ) Match the words with the people in the picture .Then check the answers. Step 6. Listening (1b ) Listen and fill in the blanks in the picture above .Find Amy’s friend .Then check the answers. Step 7 .Pair work Suppose one of the people in the picture above is your friend, describe your friend and your partner will find him or her. Step 8 .Listening ( 2a.2b) 1. Listen and circle ‘is’ or ‘has’ below. 2. Listen again. Fill in the chart. Step .9 Playing a guessing game .Who is he / she? Describe someone in the class .Ask your classmates to guess who you are describing . Step10. Practice 1. Describe Lily’s new friend, complete the dialog. 2. Work in pairs. Step11.Summary 1. Review how to describe what people look like. 2. Exercises 4
