Step I Revision and lead–in
This activity consolidates the vocabulary in Period One and leads to the new topic.
1. Show the pictures of some actions and ask some individual students to say a phrase:
start to rain mop all the water up crash into a tree fall from a tree lose the game etc.
2. Ask some individual Ss to say some sentences with the past continuous tense.
3. Ask a S:
T: Is a rainstorm terrible?
S: Yes, it is.
T: What about an earthquake?
S: It’s (more) terrible.
T: Yes. It destroys everything on the earth and even kills people. We should learn to protect ourselves and help each other during the earthquake. Do you know what everything is like during the earthquake, and how to protect ourselves? Let’s read an earthquake survivor’s home page. (write “survivor” on the Bb and explain)
Step II Reading
This activity includes pre-reading, during-reading and post-reading.
