Teaching Content: Grade Three, Unit 11 I like the bird, Period 1.
Teaching Objectives:
Knowledge objectives:
1. Students can speak and understand the new animal words, such as bird and tiger.
2. Students can use the sentence pattern “I like the …” to express their love for animals.
Ability objective: Students can use what they have learnt to talk about animals in certain context.
Emotional objective: Students can improve their awareness of protecting animals.
Teaching key point: How to help students speak and understand the new words.
Teaching difficult point: How to help students use “I like the …” to express their love for animals.
Teaching Methods: Context Teaching and Game Teaching
Teaching Procedure:
I. Warming up
Chant: Divide students into two groups. One group asks “What’s this?” The other group answers, “It’s a …(animal words)” Students say these with tempo.
II. Lead- in and group division
Point at the animal words and ask, “ What are they?” Then teach the word animal. Ask “Where are the animals?” to lead in farm animals. Then lead in zoo animals.
Divide students into two teams – zookeeper team and farmer team.
III. Presentation
1. Listen to the sound of tiger. The teacher says “This is a tiger.” Teach the pronunciation of tiger, then the sentence. A student wears the headgear of tiger and mimic the tiger. The teacher hugs the tiger and says, “I like the tiger.” Teach the key sentence pattern. Stress the pronunciation of “the” and “like”.
2. Show a picture of a monkey and teach the word monkey. Students say monkey one by one. Read and imitates monkey at the same time. One student introduces the monkey, “This is a monkey.” Others read after him. T: Do you like the monkey? Ask some volunteers to answer the question. Students read “I like the monkey ” together.
3. Guessing game – panda & elephant. Students guess with “This is a/ an …” Students read with tempo. Ask students “Who likes the …? Hands up, please. Please stand up.” Lead them to say I like the…
4. Lead students ask “What’s your name?” T: “ My name is bird.” The teacher says “Nice to meet you” to students, and students say “Nice to meet you, bird.” Students practice “I like the bird.”
5. Introduce the lion to students. Ask some students “Do you like the lion?”
IV. Practice
1. Quick reaction:Students look at the pictures on the PPT and say the names of the animals quickly.
2. Pair Work: Ask students “What animals do you like?” Give students three minutes to prepare for the question. Students introduces the animals they like to their desk mates. After that, ask some volunteers to show it on the stage.
V. Consolidation
Show pictures of two children meeting at the zoo. Ask students to have a pair work to make a dialogue about what they may say on the way. After five minutes practice, invite some volunteers to act it out.
VI. Revision and homework
Revision: Lead students to review what they have learned in the class. Inform students to protect animals.
Homework: Make a video to introduce animals in the zoo.
