1. Words and Expressions:
To know more about the uses of the words in this unit, especially, how to use them: point, point at, forward, etc.
2. Sentences:
To know the meaning of the sentences and how to answer the questions:
A: <Playing soccer> What am I saying? S1: You are playing soccer.
We can let the students tell us some verb phrases, we can make an action and let the students guess, too. Some actions: flying a kite, swimming, riding a bike, reading a book, watching TV, waving, shaking hands, smiling, pointing at the Bb and so on.
A: How do you say “Look!” using body language?
S2: We point, that means “Look!”
Let the students ask and answer the questions and revise some body language, eg. -How do you say “____” using body language?
-We ____. That means “____”.
Hello – wave our hand, hello and good-by
Nice to meet you – shake hands, nice to meet you
Stop – shake hands, stop
Yes – nod, yes
No – shake the head, no ……
3. Warm-up:
Introduction-Tell the students to read the title of this unit aloud and ask if they know what it means.
T: Read the title of Unit 2. S: Body Language. T: What is body language? Would any of you tell us what it is? S: This is a way to communicate using our bodies without using words. T: Exactly, it includes gestures, attitudes, facial expressions, and other postures and positions. What kind of body language do you usually use? S1: I make an OK sign by making my fingers like this. ( making an okay sign. ) S2: I put my thumb up when I want to say, “You are the best!” T: Okay. We have many kinds of body language. Let’s learn more about it in this unit.
Activity A-Ask the students to look at the people in the picture. See if they recognize what each person is doing.
T: We have a picture of an intersection with four blocks, one on each corner. Before we talk about the people on each corner, why don’t we talk about the police officer in the middle of the intersection? He has his left arm stretched out straight ahead. What is he trying to do?
S: He is stopping cars.
T: Yes, I think you are right. What about the little girl in No. 1?
S: She is pointing at an airplane.
T: Correct. What about the boy in No. 2?
S: He is waving his hand to the other boy across the street.
T: That’s right. And look at No. 3. What are the boys doing?
S: They are shaking hands.
T: Good. The girl in the middle seems to be introducing the boys.
Activity B
T: Now, it’s time for B. You are to write the meanings of the gestures shown in the picture. Look at No. 1 first. What are they saying as they are shaking hands?
S: They are saying, “Nice to meet you.”
T: Right. Shaking hands is one of the kinds of body language we use when we greet someone. We can also wave in greetings, like in No. 3.
LISTENING
Activity A – Have students listen to the dialogue. As they listen, they should do the matching activity in A.
Activity B – Have the students listen to the dialogue once again. Ask them to write 1 to 8 following the sequence of the dialogue.
Activity C – Ask the students to ask their partners the questions in C. Demonstrating with Question 1 may help students understand this activity better.
