Unit 2 My day Reading Teaching goals ● To get the main idea of the text by reading ● To use English to talk about school activities Teaching procedures Step 1 Making a revision What do you in the morning / in the afternoon / at night? Do you get up at 6:00 a.m.? Does he / she get up at 6:00 a.m.?… (Revise the phrases we learned last period.) Step 2 Presenting Say: Do you know Millie? She is a new student at Beijing Sunshine Secondary School. Do you want to know her school life? Please open your books and turn to page 20. Here is a letter about Millie’s School life. Listen to the tape with your books open. After listening, please answer the question: “Who is Millie’s best friend?” If you don’t understand any new words, never mind, please underline the new words you don’t know. Step 3. Listening 1. Play the tape. After listening, choose one student to answer the question “Who is Millie’s best friend?” (Amy) 2. Explain the new words that students don’t know. 3. Listen to the tape again. After listening finish Part B1 B2. Then check the answers: (B1: 1. classroom 2. Swimming pool 3. playground 4. library) (B2: 1. a 2. c 3. e 4. b 5. d ) Step 4 Practicing 1. Read the text after the tape. 2. After reading, do some ‘T / F’ questions (Part C page 22). Check the answer with the whole class. (1. T 2. T 3. F 4. F 5. T 6. F ) 3. Read the text together. 4. After reading, ask the following questions: ① Is Millie’s school very big? (Yes, it is.) ② What class is she in? (Class 1 Grade 7.) ③ Why does she like her classroom? (Because it is big and clean.) ④ What do Millie and Amy do at lunch time? (They sit under the trees in the playground. They always chat with each other or play games.) ⑤ How are Millie’s classmates? (They’re nice and great.) ⑥ When does the school day start every morning? (At eight.) ⑦ What does Millie do after she does morning exercises? (She has lessons.) ⑧ When do their lessons begin? (At 8:25 a.m..) ⑨ Which are Millie’s favourite lessons? (Chinese and English.) ⑩ Does she like Maths? (Yes, she does.) ⑾ How long does she spend doing her homework? (About two hours a day.) ⑿ Where does Millie go every day? (The school library.) ⒀ Does she go to the Reading club every day? (No, she goes to the Reading Club every Tuesday and Friday.) ⒁ Does she like playing football? (No, she doesn’t . She likes playing volleyball.) ⒂ Is Amy good at swimming? (Yes, she is. She is a good swimmer.) 5. Read the text again. 6. Ask students to fill in the blanks. (with books closed.) Millie is a students at Beijing Sunshine Secondary School. She loves her new school. It’s very big. She is in class 1, Grade 7. She loves her classroom, because it’s clean and big. Millie’s classmates are all nice to her. They are really great. Amy is her best friend. At lunchtime they sit under the trees in the playground. They always chat with each other or play game. The school day starts / begins at 8 every morning. They do morning exercises first. Their lessons begin at 8:25 a.m.. Millie’s favourite lessons are Chinese and English. She likes Maths, too. She spends about two hours a day doing her homework. She goes to the school library every day. She goes to the Reading Club after school every Tuesday and Friday. She also likes playing volleyball. Sometimes, she practices with her friends after school. Amy is a member of the Swimming Club. She is a very good swimmer. They always have a good time at school. Step 5 Making a summary Ask students to go through the text again. Then choose one or two able students to retell the text. Step 6 Doing homework 1. Read the text and try to recite it. 2. Talk about your school life in English with your classmates.
